CTD sleeping dwarf thoughts view
« on: July 18, 2020, 12:51:09 am »

Started puting display cases in worker 5x1 bedrooms, to fill with stuff they enjoy. I often read thoughts, when they are asleep, then stuff it in their black bronze display case. However, DF crashes to desktop, when viewing sleeping dorfs thoughts, is this supposed to be happening? not the CTD, but does that option turn off when they are asleep. I dont want to be forcing an old feature, that has been tweaked to work on moon phases. Thanks, three CTDs tonight.  Everyone, looking at thoughts. Gave up the farm, and came on here for reasurances, workarounds.

Never heard of such an issue.

If it's repeatable a save with it would be useful. Do you pause DF before looking (not that it SHOULD make a difference, but there's presumably something that causes the crashing)?

How are you reading their thoughts, exactly? Are you reading each dwarf's big individual data screen, or are you using a utility to filter it?

Oh, thats a great idea. Pause first, to let everything, wind down to a safe rate of play. Thank you, I always pause with Therapist changes, too. Ill do it for z, too.

Method: Its the z key, after pointing ontop a blinksnoring dwarf, who is positioned atop his bed, a married bedroom, most are married. Not tavern room. It is very repeatable, same action, right after a restart, it does it 100% of the time without fail, if I wait until dwarf awakes, and moves, not tested. I will try again tonight, just gave up last night a lil frustrated.

4yr fort, running no graphics and dfHack. Latest versions of DF and dfHack. Elf caravan on map. Its a big bustling fortress, 12 visiting performers, 30something tavern rooms occupied.

However, its also happened prior to me creating the All Visitor meeting places, just didnt bother to chirp up here, and ask.  This has never happened in workers in bunkrooms, that I saw. It has happened on hunters sleeping on the floor, and children playing(not sleeping).

My guess is its either failing from a
1)bug, gonna try again with pause to see if its a codestress/memory leak bug,
2)raw edit bug, I reduce stress and immoderation to 0.0.0 levels in save/raws/standard criitter object/dwarf code block, I use gui/gm-unit to do the same on longterm visitors and migrants,
3)family-affairs excessiveness, I got a lil bit hoggish, in marriages, to get the most dorfs in the least bedrooms, and many of kids to attract snatchers/night creatures.

I have not accepted any performance troupes, and not one single dwarf has left embark map to raid.

I've 1 hu bowman Monster Slayer, ya know, I just noticed I can give her war pets! Her and my 9 cheat tamed reptile men(tame), 1 CotG, and roughly 10-12 hunters are all on superdwarf list, they all do a bunch of longwalks. No idea what reptile men are doing, but they wander about on no job, almost all day long. They are hostile on tame -set 9(untamed).

I live, with fastdwarf 0 1 on at all times, I just cannot stand the military without teleport. My largest QSP is finished goods, 4000some objects on 1x1.

Therapist task customizing... My woodcutters fish. My hunters weave. My miners engrave, My planters beekeep. My cooks brew. My flirters dance. My Crafters are jack of all trades, except weaponsmith. My mechanics weaponsmith. Nobody hauls stone. Hunters haul wood.

No nobility, just mayor. 1014 year. 65x65 Perfectworld. 4mil world events prior to embark. Have just battled a draltha, 44/44 battlepages of skulltaps later, these trainees who were sent to assist hunters, are 5+ in armor and 2/2/2 in spear, sword and axe. But 0 in shield, draltha regen fast, make wonderful training dummies, once a hunter knocks um unconscious.

And yes, its the same fort with "that war elephant" He hasnt asked for a bed, since I put him in a the newly placed Animal Handler Guildhall + animal pen, activity zone in cavern 3, z-layer -52.  I will not touch add-thought anymore, that script seems off in 47.04, Ive a large bat pup population and 4 war draltha, they've not had offspring, yet. Many hunting rattlesnakes and hunting adders. All set in gui/gm-unit. Thats a sinister combo. A poison and swimming, hunting animal on an embark with a river Y or tributary.

Be nice to solve this, superdwarf does not store, between crashes.

Paused it. Waited for announcements to resolve themselves. Looked at dwarf on bed. Then thoughts, by way of hitting my enter key, this time, instead of z. Game hard crashed to desktop. No msg. Punted me right out. Bleh! I am taking a short break from DF.

Cyberpunk is gonna eat up most of my gameplay nights.

This forums been a wonderful help. Thank you, you guys are awesome, everyone of you. Ill try not to wait for another pandemic to visit bay12 Comm.
