On behalf of Solrise Academy, I would like to congratulate you on having secured a place here for the Class of 1823-1826. Your talents, academic accomplishments and spirit reflect what we as an Elerian Academy value, respect and expect out of our students, and it is for this reason that we have selected you among the thousands of students that apply for a place here every year. We value ambition, magnamity, bravery and kindness, both at Solrise and among the ranks of the Elerian Order, and we hope to instill these values within you.

During your stay at Solrise, should you choose to accept your place here, you will be studying under the finest instructors, both from the civilian world and the Elerian Order, as well as making use of our world-class facilities, such as our training rooms and library. While at Solrise, you will be educated in various subjects, as well as having the oppoortunity to participate in the vibrant student life that defines Solrise Academy, from the many extracurricular clubs to the various events we hold throughout the academic year. Moreover, as part of a combat class aiming for a place in the Elerian Order, you will also have the opportunity to participate in small-scale missions that will allow you to experience within a controlled environment the day-to-day operations of the Order within which they operate, whether you choose to accept a post with the Order or take up a different career.

Preparing for a career either with Solrise Academy, the Calamity Forecast Office or somewhere else, all of you are in your final year of studying at one of the most prestigious institutions in the world of Parvain, a world not so different and yet not so similar from Earth. While at Solrise Academy, you will have the opportunity to participate in many academy activities, as well as learn the ropes of how the Elerian Order works. Given the small sizes of the classes, eleven lucky students will have been able to continue all three years at Solrise Academy without being expelled or dropping out.

(OOC Note: Do not worry about overlap or what best fits the party. I care more about if your character is interesting. Being the sole representative of a class that is often considered essential is not a guarantee of getting into Solrise Academy.)

- Progression caps on non-HP stats can be conditionally increased up to a total of 100% and to a minimum of 0% depending on GM discretion.
- Battles in Solrise Academy do not always have permadeath. Mock Battles (Tournament Battles and Sparring Fights) do not have permadeath and upon being reduced to 0 HP and left for three turns, students will instead be retreated. Other battles have different conditions which will be covered in the Other Info tab during battle.
- Cavaliers may promote into Great Knight. Great Knights have 6 MOV to compensate.
- Lockpicks are no longer items; instead, any class with the Lockpick skill may open doors and chests without keys.
- New formula for Ailment staves: Staff%= Staff Hit + [(User MAG - Target RES) * 3] + (SKL * 2) - (Distance between user and target * 5).
- Characters may choose any starting weapon within the proficiencies of their class.
- Stillness and Provoke are not available.
- Savior, in addition to its other effects, gives the user +3 Aid.
- Pirates and Bandits may swap their Axe proficiencies for Fist proficiencies, as can their promotions, Heroes and War Clerics. Fencers and their promotions may use Whips in place of Swords.
- Merchants and their promotions, Artificers and their promotions and Wanderers have an additional class skill, Negotiator, which activates at different facilities depending on class.
Negotiator: The holder of this skill pays 30% less at certain facilities around Solrise Academy.
- Merchants: Negotiator activates at the Food Market.
- Artificers: Negotiator activates at Cowan and Cowan.
- Wanderers: Negotiator activates at the Academy Tuck Shop.
- Anti-Cavalry works against all Mounted types and Monsters.

In addition, Threat Attacks, Great Monsters, Talk and Life Points are in play.
- Threat Attacks: Powerful attacks that hit multiple tiles, triggered by attracting the attention of the attacker. Threat Attacks are marked with red squares over the tiles that will be hit and will activate one turn after they are triggered.
- Great Monsters: Monsters that occupy more than one tile, have massive HP counts and have Threat Attacks of their own. They reward large amounts of EXP for defeating them.
- Talk: Certain marked enemies will have the option to be Talked to, which grants the talker items or EXP. If an enemy is made to leave the map through Talk, EXP will be gained as if the enemy was defeated through combat. Some enemies can be Talked to after certain conditions are fulfilled, but enemies that are attacked while Talk is enabled for them will no longer accept being Talked to.
- Life Points: Certain enemies will have Life Points, which allow them to be healed completely upon being reduced to 0 HP at the cost of that point. Life Point expenditure cancels all Threat Attacks launched by the wielder that have yet to land.

 -Aegis (Free): When suffering an attack from Bows, Hidden Weapons, Tomes and Dragonstones, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance to reduce the damage dealt by half.
-Aegis+/Pavise+ (Cost): When suffering an attack, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance to reduce the damage dealt by half.
-Desperation (Free): When making an attack or counterattack, if you are < or = 30% HP, you may make any followup attacks after your first attack/counterattack.
-Desperation+ (Cost): When making an attack or counterattack, if you are < or = 40% HP, you may make any followup attacks after your first attack/counterattack, and you gain 15% crit.
-Dragon Ward (Free): When an adjacent ally suffers an attack, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance, based on your stats, to reduce the damage by half.
-Dragon Ward+ (Cost): When an adjacent ally suffers an attack, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance, based on your stats, to cancel it out altogether.
- Malady (Free): Extends the duration of buffs, status conditions and debuffs inflicted by one turn. Debuffed enemies deal 2 less damage and allies buffed deal 2 extra damage.
-Pavise (Free): When suffering an attack from Swords, Lances, Axes and Monsters, there is a (SKL+LCK)% chance to reduce the damage by half.
-Rend Heaven (Free): During an attack, you have a (SKL+LCK)% chance to deal damage equal to half your enemy’s STR or MAG stat based on the type of weapon you are wielding. (lf using a physical weapon, calculate with enemy’s Strength. If using a magical weapon, calculate using the enemy’s Magic. Weapons capable of both use the stat that targets the same defensive stat as they do.)
-Trailblazer (Free): Penalties for moving into forest, desert, deep snow, and hills tiles are reduced by 1. No ill effects from Weather are suffered as well.
-Vengeance (Free) – During an attack, you have a (SKL+LCK)% chance to add half of your missing HP to your attack.

First Class:
- Apothecaries now can use vulneraries and concoctions on anybody and still attack during the turn, rather than just vulneraries on themselves.
- Bards receive an additional Class Skill, Team Spirit: Allies Performed, buffed or healed by the Bard receive an Energised buff. Energised status grants +3 DMG and +15 Hit/Eva in addition to other buffs and lasts until the end of the next Phase.
- Cavaliers can choose between Swords/Lances and Axes/Lances for weapons.
- Fighter’s “Clear a Path” ability now also applies to Pillars, to Forts, and to any miscellaneous terrains that cost 2 MOV to move into.
- Pegasus Knights may choose between Swords and Lances for proficiencies.
- Shaman’s Ancient Gamble trades 1 SPD for 1.5 MAG (rounding up), instead of 1 SPD for 1 MAG.
- Tactician has Press the Assault’s effective range reduced from 3 to 2.
- Troubadour gets a buff on Healing Flow – each turn’s worth of healing is 1/2 the normal healing amount, not 1/3 the normal healing amount.
- Wyvern Knights may choose between Lances and Axes for proficiencies.
- Necromancer's Draw Life now restores an additional 20% MHP in addition to the 20% of total damage it already restores.

Promoted Classes:
- Assassin’s Vital Strike is limited to a cap of +25 Crit at maximum.
- Berserker has Berserker Barrage capped at a total of +24 crit from sacrificing DEF/RES.
- Dark Rider’s Life Steal only heals 33% of max HP.
- Dread Fighter’s Element of Surprise also applies on pillars, and any miscellaneous 2-MOV terrain.
- Falcon Rider’s Charge must be declared during the initial attack.
- Illusionist doesn’t get Brilliant Disguise, but instead they get the following ability: Deceptive Dance: The Illusionist can choose to create an illusion and refresh the action of one allied unit within 2 spaces. This doesn’t replace Bolster, which Illusionist does get.
- Nomad Healer gains the supplement's Polymath's Mastery of Transmutation instead of Medicine Man.
- Nomad Trooper’s Master of the Plains activates on any open terrain outdoors.
- Saint’s Splashover can be applied 3 times per map, and Doublebuff only takes 2 QL.
- Shadow Sword’s Marked for Death doesn’t apply to the overall bosses of a level, but can be used on midbosses and other named enemies.
- Swordsmaster has Faster than the Eye capped at +30.

Bio: Born the first daughter of a large family of farmers, Rika grew up taking care of her younger siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as the menial everyday labor of farm life: moving hay, working the fields, tending the animals, and so on. Although some might begrudge such a life of drudgery, Rika actually quite enjoyed it, and liked looking after the others. She was always ready with a bandage and a hug when a little brother scraped a knee, or to put her work on pause to play pretend with a sister.

It's likely she would have stayed in this life for the rest of her days had her Arte not been discovered on accident: while her father was working in the loft of the barn, he almost fell out. It's likely he would have been seriously injured, maybe killed from the fall if Rika hadn't somehow teleported him to safety, where he fell into a giant stack of loose hay instead of the sunbaked dirt thirty feet below. After a serious family discussion and some letters to the Elerian Order, Rika was sent off to Starfall Academy. Although many teachers assumed she would learn physical combat - as a Bovis, she was seven feet tall, and very fit from manual labor - she instead showed talent with staves. Particularly, with those meant to hinder enemies.

She learned at Starfall for two years before the Elerian Order proposed a student exchange program: one class from Solrise would be divided between Moonset and Starfall, one from Moonset would be divided between Solrise and Starfall, and a class from Starfall would be divided between Solrise and Moonset, to see if the students would improve their abilities from different teaching methods and a new environment. Friederike was one of those sent to Solrise, and she's looking forward to making new friends among her peers and juniors there.

Starting Weapon: Hatchet

Bio: Lin is a quiet girl who has lived a noisy life.

Her tumultuous fate began with a mysterious entity known as Tigris Laboratories; the organization took her in when she was very young, ostensibly after her own family and right leg had been claimed by a Calamity. This same event, according to what the staff there told her, was what caused her Artes to trigger at a tender age. Sieglinde was a sickly child, often bedridden during her childhood. Her health was not improved by the Arte she continues to struggle with to this day; the immense heat the ability dubbed Muspellheimr generates in the environment is hazardous for the user as well.

Always a quiet child, she was encouraged to take up a trade by her caretakers to pull her out of her room and set her up for a bright future. Sieglinde surprised them by gravitating towards blacksmithing, though it was quickly evident why. Due to her Arte, she was all too familiar with the dangers that the heat of a forge posed, and the same would cause few issues if accidentally released in the heat and metal of a smithy. The only real difficulty she encountered was the strength and stamina needed to lift hammers and work pieces through potential hours of work, but she refused to be deterred, and persistence let her develop what was needed as her health recovered.

This made up the majority of her childhood; she was largely kept away from prying eyes to prevent unfortunate events involving her Arte, and she continued to refine her skill with metal and mechanisms. That was, until the day she met a kindly older gentleman by the name of Hansi, who informed her that she was going to get to see the rest of the world outside the lab she called home. She wasn't keen on exploring a new environment at first, which led to a somewhat tense few days that may or may not have involved fire hazards at Hansi's house and a leg being thrown around the house, but Sieglinde soon found a new rhythm.

Living with Hansi meant exposure to the wide world of music, and one upcoming individual in particular. Sieglinde quickly became known largely as Lin as she was introduced to Vicky, as the two were of an age (as far as could be told, anyway; the former's records were startlingly difficult to obtain.) The two somewhat improbably developed a friendship; Vicky's dogged persistence and/or blithe lack of care towards Lin's lack of reciprocation led to her cracking through the asocial girl's shell - not that it was easy for anyone but the pair to tell, at times. The pieces came together when Hansi returned from a day's business to find the two having a veritable jam session; Lin had been making explorations of a musical nature, and while she didn't have the amount of sheer time or dedication to the craft that Vicky had, she could still keep reasonably with the other belgor girl.

The rest is history, as they say. The reclusive girl took naturally to her role as bassist in LDMD and one of the few people Vicky could call a peer. The band, combined with her maintaining her other hobby when and where she could, provided her a rare outlet that helped keep her level and in control of her Arte. Her friend's own Arte has also aided in this task, providing some assistance when more pyrotechnics than intended found their way into a venue. It was only natural for the two of them to continue together into Solrise Academy to complete their schooling. Lin in particular could learn from the best how to manage and apply her Artes, and potentially look to a career beyond the musical one she had been gifted with: a chance to finally give back to the world.

Starting Weapon: Iron Claws

Bio: 16 years ago, a Calamity swept across Volskaya. One such people who lived in the region were the Nord Clan, who oversaw Nature's Growth and ensured that when Calamities struck, the land recovered, and advised others in keeping the land healthy. This they had done for generations on their own, though the families who lived there had an average number of Arte users, and very few arcanists. Of those that did exist, they tended to become Wardens, trained at Moonset Academy, some joining the Order itself, others returning to perform the duties previous families had done for generations.

However, this Calamity ended far differently. The three Knight-Lieutenants, Oathbreakers, refused to send aid. Some of the Knight-Officer were our own people, others also from Volskaya. But they came too late. Many died in the Calamity, including mother and father, while others survived.

It was from this that as I grew, I decided to join the Order, to reach the position of Knight-Captain. For al intents and purposes, Volskaya is gone. No matter how much work the Nord and others do, it won't come back to it's former glory within my lifetime. That's why I've decided to work so that such a disaster never happens again to my people. Ruthenia is still in place to be plagued by Calamities.

Thankfully, the Nord were not wiped out, even if we have been greatly reduced in number and a few Families are down to single digits. Gebo Glacies is probably the best gift I could hope for as a Fera, for my body is strong, and my ability with the Arcana is high. I'm not afraid to put in the work. Granted, since we relocated to northern Erebia, that does mean I will likely be attending Solrise Accademy instead of Moonset Academy. Bio: Of the varied people that inhabit the Erebian and Lyrian continents, few are as secretive as the vampire clans. Typically living in small, isolated communities on the fringes of Calamity zones, these long-lived, pale-skinned cousins of the belgor are often regarded with suspicion, fear, and even outright hostility when they venture into the wider world. As a result, most vampires shun outsiders and take little interest in their neighbors.

Most, but not all. The Salandil clan of Northern Erebia is unusual in that they have, in recent years, started reaching out to non-vampires in the region with messages of peace and coexistence. Progress has, understandably, been somewhat erratic thanks to long-held superstitions, but the clan is determined to push relations forward as long as the danger of Calamities remains.

Enter one Mordecai Hoth. As a young boy, Mordecai lost his father to a Fiend attack on the outskirts of the Salandil settlement. He also witnessed the actions of the Knights that defeated the Fiends, the heroes that shed their blood to defend people that many others would ignore. From that moment on, the vampire knew that he wanted to walk a similar path with his life.

Fortunately for his new dreams, Salandil clan's outreach efforts had borne some fruit. The young Hoth had access to modern books and training that most other vampires lack, and more importantly he had the support of his elders once his plans became known. Indeed, it was his elders who recommended that Mordecai apply for Solrise Academy in the far-off nation of York when he came of age, and who arranged for his application to be delivered. The day Mordecai's acceptance letter arrived was one of the happiest of his life. The clan threw a congratulatory feast, presented him with a brand new tome, and sent him on his way with a friendly (and well-paid) caravan bound for Barminster.

Mordecai is studious and is often serious, but is also eager to learn and to experience the world outside of his clanhome. Aside from his goal of becoming a knight, he also wishes to deal with some of the myths that have sprung up regarding his kind. He hopes that by being open and honest (and hopefully renowned), he can eventually start paving the way for peaceful integration of vampires into society.

Bio: Giles' father is a blacksmith, as was his father before him, and so too, to all indications, would Giles grow up to be a smith himself. Even from a relatively young age, it was clear he was gifted in it; by age twelve, his products were on par with those of journeymen several years his senior.
Giles was fifteen when his life was derailed. A Calamity tore through his village - normally a manageable situation, but one of the local farmers had failed to get their cows inside in time, and it wasn't long before a herd of Fiends was wreaking havoc about the town. When a squad from the Elerian Order arrived, Giles was desperately holding one of them off from the forge, scarred with marks where the Calamity's rain had splashed onto him from outside the covered area, with his strikes leaving wounds that clearly didn't match the blacksmithing hammer he was wielding. It wasn't long before it was determined that he had an Arte, and after three years of Order-funded intensive study at a local school, he was brought to Solrise to hone his skills.
In the years he's been there, Giles has learned the combat like he learned blacksmithing: by hitting things very hard with heavy objects. As for actually engaging in a real combat... he's taken to it relatively slowly. He has, however, improved his smithing skills further, and while he has thus far failed to express magical talent, he has expressed interest in Artifice.

Bio: Desdonia was birthed in a merchant caravan in one of the cities in the Kingdom of Kemet’s caravansaries and came from a family of traders.  During the time from her infanthood to her young adolescent years, has learned the adversities of the survival in the extreme variable temperatures of the desert and being able to handle heat fatigue and other environmental factors of the deadliness of the Dayar Desert, but thankfully their were plenty of oases and water sources among the common trade routes even if many time they were horrific to travel through. However the threat of constant Calamites, has led to her seeing many Fiends and her own hatred and phobia towards the, she has seen many of her friends and cousins be lost to these creature as she travelled, eventually mentally recuperating with her Mother teaching the faith towards the Sculptor. She had to learned to work with the pack animals; hauling, storing, and accounting for resources with her brethren and learned a way of living in her rustic life, until through her own self-interest decided to join a religious cloister of the Sculptor through being anointed and “recruited” from a spiritual leader due to her own heightened zeal and persistence as well as a decent recommendation from her Mother who also shared a past with this cloister, she joined the ranks as an acolyte.

It was an out-of-the-way monastery from the capital of Kemet, at least connected and built from floodplain river, her adolescent upbringing was steeped with the tradition, faith, and philosophy of the Sculptor and she worked with other members to bring emanation towards this deity. Eventually though due to a stressful situation with her critical viewpoints towards one of the spiritual leaders, her hands hungered and her Arte dynamically activated, and within a flash she drained the life force and left the person in an indefinite comatose state. While she was reprimanded for the act, all of the higher-ups knew about the powers of the Arte and this led to the chief of the building to send letters of recommendation and recruitment towards the Elerian Order, and even though it been excruciating months until their arrival, she was handpicked by a Knight-Officer, and trained in Elerian Academy where others with their excess of archery and steppe horses, have dedicated her training and focus there, but due to her own religious fervor and her belief of penance for the horrors she saw in the Desert, has trained with the whip with her binding in blood and has become a one with self-flagellation for anything to stop the advancement of the Fiends.

Eventually due to her own attempts during her years at training to gain the attention of the Knight Captain of Aethia in her own path to knighthood and was rewarded , she was to be a selected foreign transfer student to Solrise Academy, and while she has gain anxiety and stress from meeting new people, she desires to make her Kingdom proud as well as the Order, and anxious again for any conflict towards any Fiends she will inevitably fight.

Bio:

The Sokolov family has a rich and long history with the Elerian Order. Vuk Sokolov was one of the original members who joined together after the Great Calamity of 924. As one of the great warriors of the Empire of Ruthenia, he was placed high in the Order and quickly earned his title there. He was famed for being one of the few warriors in that era to fight with gensen, an ornamental fan most often found in Yamajima at that time. But he was deadly with it, and went on to great deeds, inspiring a legacy that would carry on through generations. Almost 900 years later, Orrel Sokolov III was a young Knight-Officer serving near Volskaya, and struggling as a divorced father of two. However, when he heard of the great disaster approaching Volskaya, he knew what he had to do. Despite the lack of action being taken among his higher ups, he set out to do what he could, leaving behind an heirloom pair of gensen made out of Alphinite, a legacy passed down from Vuk himself. These would be the one memento his sons would have to remember him by.

16 years later, his sons have long since been moved to live with their mother in York. Growing up, they relied solely on each other, never trusting that someone else would not disappear one day like their father. The elder of the two, Orrel, was expected to follow in his father's footsteps. He was an angry child, feeling the burden of generations on his back even when he was still a child. This often led to outbursts, fighting against those who teased him or his brother, and almost led him to being kicked out of his mother's house before he reached 19. But somehow he made it, knowing that he had a legacy to carry. And so he entered Solrise Academy in his 19th year, with many expecting great things of him. And great things he did... in some areas. In the training grounds, he excelled, showing skill with the sword and gensen matched by few. While he did not have the talent for multiple weapons like some, he was stronger than most in his focus. And military tactics were another strength, displaying a sense for the flow of battle that even some seasoned warriors would struggle to match. But when it came to other subjects, business, philosophy, all those that were book focused, he failed miserably at. He barely scrapped through his first two years, but in his third year, collapsed. Forced to repeat a year, he once again failed to perform to the standard required of him. Finally, he was told that there would be no more chances. He would graduate this year or they would let him go, irregardless of what talent he might bring on the battlefield. Facing with failing the generations before him, as well as his younger brother who now joined him in the third year class, he vowed that this year it would be different and he would make his ancestors proud.

Bio:
The Celeste family bloodline traces far back, even before the great calamity. The first notable member hailed from the Kingdom of Yamajima. He took a very risky business venture with a couple of his closest friends down south to try and make a name for themselves in Alphinite farming and distribution. Their risk paid off, however, and their business skyrocketed. Of course, once everything was stable and only on the rise, having his friends leech off of him was not optimal for the family. So the Celeste, “disposed of” his friends so that he and his family were the sole owners of their Alphinite mines. This of course never got out to the public and only a select few in the family even know. Of course this would not be the only case of predatory practices from the Celeste family. Most of the major incidents are quite thoroughly swept under the rug, however, some minor incidents do sometimes seep through the cracks into the public eye. Thus, there are definitely some who greatly resent the Celeste family. This includes Astrea herself.

Fast forward to the present day and the Celeste family is doing even better than ever. Now one of the top producers of Alphinte they easily rake in huge sums of money every day. Astrea was the youngest daughter of the next generation of Celeste. Being seen only as an item to be married off to by her father and someone that could achieve the dreams her mother never could as a child, saying she didn’t like parents is an understatement. Her eldest brother was pampered as the next heir and her older sister was quite content to live off the luxuries even if it meant being some rich man’s trophy wife. Astrea would not accept what her parents wanted from her. She pushed herself to excel not only in her mandatory scholarly studies but also combat training. She thought maybe her performances would prove to them she’s more than just a walking pretty face, however it was all for naught.

As soon as Astrea’s 20th birthday came around, her parents immediately signed her up. Her father thought it would be a great opportunity to show her off to potential suitors and her mother could never graduate so of course her daughter has too! However, Astrea had other plans. She decided she would devote herself to becoming a Knight of the Order, even if it meant disowning her family. She’ll push herself through these three years, even if it means going through hell to do so. Two years have already gone by and this is the final stretch. The rider has already gotten used to the occasional glare from an upper and lower classmen based on her family name and graduation can’t come soon enough for her big reveal to her family. She refuses to falter now that she’s so close.

Bio: Delwyn hails from York, the second and youngest child of a wealthy family with little connection to the Elerian Order. She was not the favorite child. Eleven years ago, her parents considered sending her older brother to Solrise Academy, but the Volskaya Incident was still relatively fresh and their confidence in the Order was low enough that they wanted little to do with anything even associated with them. It would take almost a decade for them to reconsider their stance; when Delwyn came of age, they felt the prestige and respect that having her attend an Elerian Academy would bring their family was finally too much to pass up. The education it would provide her was also important, but a secondary concern. She was not her brother, after all.

To most who knew her well, she was not expected to succeed. Pass the entrance exams, yes. But to pass all three years was almost unthinkable. Although fairly well-adjusted in temperament and intelligent enough for the studies she would have to undertake, her work ethic had always been lacking, with obvious deficiencies in both attention and motivation.

Yet, up to now, she has not washed out. She has squeaked by a couple of times - her combat ability generally does not stand out though her Arte is not insignificant, and she seems to have mastered the art of doing slightly more than the bare minimum in order to not be perceived as doing the bare minimum - but in terms of overall results, she has never been deemed unsatisfactory. If not just luck or coincidence, this speaks to surprisingly consistent effort despite all other indications.

Her relationship with her parents has been and remains complicated. Often it seems purely transactional, as they have been providing a large amount of financial support as long as she has been attending the academy, which has mostly gone to fund her interest in amateur photography. She also has little to no contact with her brother, their relationship distant at best. They were never in the right place at the right time to get along, never really competing because she was just a child when he was almost fully grown, but still always on different paths. Sometimes... that's something she regrets.

In contrast to her usual retinence to participate in mandatory academy activities, it's common to spot Delwyn out and about during free times, camera in hand. Talking to her can be a different sort of ordeal, as she can provide pleasant conversation but has a bit of a reputation for occasionally speaking too honestly and prying too far into personal topics without realizing.
