How to: Use snow as a reagent?
« on: May 04, 2020, 01:08:12 pm »

My brain isn't working. How would you specify snow as a reagent in a reaction?

I'm attempting to create an adventurer-friendly reaction that builds a snowman.

Do you wanna build a snowman?...

(Also, remember that snow is actually frozen water in the raws. You'll probably need to specify using a "water powder" or something similar rather than "snow".)

How would that work. Would Dwarves just collect snow lying on the ground and use it? Could they carry that snow into a fort without it melting?

In Fortress mode, it won't work, for the very reasons you stated. In order for it to actually work, you'd need another reaction to gather snow (likely creating it out of thin air, because reactions can't check surroundings like that) and put it in a bag (because Dwarves can't carry powder around by itself), and you'd have to make sure all of the snow-using workshops were located outdoors to stop it from melting (it'd last for a little while indoors, but not long).

In Adventurer mode, however, none of that is necessary because you can just pick snow up from the ground.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
