Night Creature Idea: Gashadokuro
« on: February 07, 2020, 05:30:20 pm »

The Gashadokuro could be summoned by a necromancer when they have at least 15 skeletons of starved civilized creatures of the same species. The Gashadokuro is a huge skeleton of the species it came from. They cannot be seen or sustain damage. They will drain the blood of creatures that they kill. They will not attack anyone affected by a shrine blessing.

Can't be seen or take any damage...? Doesn't that sound OP?

But they are rare, and can be ignored if you have a shrine blessing or are a vampire.

So....no citizens of a fortress then? And one out of a thousand adventurers by lucky coincidence (or those who regularly play as a vampire without fail every single boring time).

Still seems a bit op for a suggestion to put into vanilla DF.
Sure you could mod one in though.

Gashadokuros sounds similar to the current amalgamation-type experiment, which is also a giant monster made of combined individuals, although experiments only use living beings. Undead variants sound cool. The powers could be made procgen like the undead lieutenants (there's already a Vanish ability), although this thing seems threatening even w/o any magic powers.

Unless this creature can be avoided by running away from it fast enough, all this suggestion seems likely to do is force players to repeatedly savescum until they learn the only option is to avoid the area entirely--which can be very annoying if you need to visit the area for a quest.

Also, why is a skeleton invisible? I can easily understand spectral undead being invisible to the eye, but not those with obvious material body parts.

Dwarf Fortress -- kind of like Minecraft, but for people who hate themselves.

Well, it's invisible because folklore says they're meant to be invisible. Doesn't make it much of a good suggestion as far as gameplay goes though.

Having said that there is a mod which I now recall has these guys. Some kind of mythical creatures pack?

--edit
Oh, here it is. Well, it differed from the original suggestion (on page 3 of the mod thread) and seems to be visible and named a "bone colossus". Kind of not at all like a Gashadokuro...
