I jumped into a hole of a temple because there was no way to get down there, and there was an epic battle happening down there. So I thought I could Grab onto a floor on my way down. Only to slip and fall to my death.

Practiced swimming during sunset and got encased in ice.  Still in awe to this day.
I've never been frozen in ice before, is it instant death? Or do you have a chance to be saved?

It kills you instantly, no chance to escape. I think its one of the things people are hoping gets fixed during the world gen rework that'll happen during the big wait.

Ah, no, that part isn't known to be on the list of things to handle for the worldgen rework, the map rewrite is mostly about the positioning of features and connecting them. So, fortresses that have no exit is one of the notable bugs that will be resolved, but also hamlets intersecting with volcanos.

I mean, it might still happen, of course, but it's equally likely that it'll wait until the introduction of boats (but I doubt that it'll wait beyond that, artic oceans would be terribly dull if that were the case...)

I guess the dumbest thing I ever did was walk through a murky pond while my companion was following behind, and not realizing he'd follow me, he start drowning, I jump back in, not realizing I can't pick him up, which means his AI gave up on trying to get out, and then my companion was dead...

neglect a dwarf fort and not bury your dead to get ghost, then have an adventurer promoted to military commander or military captain so you can get the recruit units dialog option then craft some trinket or find a trinket and name it for the purpose of giving it to the ghost so they willingly accept being part of the military.

ghosts are just the dead units of a player fort that over time came back to life, but honestly nothing really changed about them outside of the unit getting a ghostly flag toggled on in their unit flag section and probably activating their already dormant ghost data.

like it possible to get ghost companions and probably dress them up if you want.

depends on the ghost type, murderous ghosts probably do have that while the others mostly apply stress to dwarves.
then again recruiting a murderous ghost would be tricky

You would think a campfire on ice would be a stupid thing, but it's fine. A fire next to ice, however:
Related Protip: Don't build a campfire next to a natural ice wall. It will melt, flow, put out the campfire, and encase you in ice as it refreezes. I know this from experience - I was returning to civilization after raiding a vault - which is also my answer to this thread.
