Dwarf food preferences
« on: November 27, 2019, 05:47:32 pm »

I remember reading somewhere that dwarves started getting unhappy thoughts if they've eaten their favorite food in the past, but haven't eaten it recently. I can't find it anywhere now. Is it still true?

No. They get unhappy about not eating their favourite foods regardless. Even if that food doesn't actually exist in the world and there's no way they could have eaten it even before moving to your fortress. It's slightly buggy.  :)

It's just one unhappy thought, so... as an easy counter to that just make a little statue garden right outside the main dining area.  So long as you don't use statues featuring trolls and goblins murdering dwarves, they'll sort of cancel each other out.

Nice furniture isn't quite as effective as it once was (because of the ability of a legendary dining room to cancel out "forced to endure the decay of his family"). Unfortunately there's not quite enough to cancel out the bad stuff right now (well, there is but it requires a lot more micromanagement than intended). Hopefully to be balanced better during the next couple of releases).
