Should we invest in SMGs at all given the heavy focus on power armor given our free equipment and game title? Even if we get a hard-hitting SMG with AP rounds there is little advantage to using them over an automatic rifle or machine gun when we take into account the fact that most targets are expected to be armored and our men are expected to be equipped with exoskeletons.
With three free phases, we can get a machine gun, assault rifle, and some anti-armor rifle/artillery/etc. Or we could upgrade the suit to be something combat worthy instead of one of the weapons, if we don't want to count on a revision phase to fix the helmet.
Good point, but we'll definitely need to use one design on the armour, and ideally I'd like one design for a special resource as well.
I think we should be able to just do a Big Daddy style armor on the helmet and call it good for our general use using one of the Revisions, specialist designs for specialist troops could come after we have some weapons worth using.
So lets work on that "improve rapid weapons" part!
"Janitor" M1 General Purpose MG: Using the same .303 caliber bullets as the bolt-action rifle for logistical simplicity, this air-cooled recoil-operated belt-fed machine gun is made to be reliable. It comes with one replaceable barrel and an open bolt design, allowing for sustained fire and limited weight. It is designed to replace the currently used SMGs, due to resource limits making it difficult to deploy both at once. Other features include a bipod, iron sights, and perforated barrel jacket.
