Food was plentiful for the blood minnows, so the greatest danger for their survival was not starvatin but predation. Predators could easily swallow entire swarms of the tightly packed blood minnows. But a new pheromone came in to help.
When a blood minnow was scared by a predator, it emitted a pheromone that caused the swarm to disperse and it's members to hide in the crevices of the reef (or just to run away in a much looser formation if they found themselves attacked in the open ). Only when the danger passed would the member of the swarm find each other again, by smell of course.

The White Rays still remain with a white underside even if their thick hide and placoid scales on the top is a thick grayish color. The advent of large moving creatures throughout the shallows has forced them to adapt their senses to make sure they aren’t on the list of predation. As well to make sure that they remained effective when making sure their food sources were secure.

The mouth structure of the White Rays changes in a particular way to gain access to a different form of food system, that is of phytoplankton and microalgae. They develop a herbivorous filter feeding , with their frontal mouth part develops a sieve-like filter to strain plankton and algae from the water to be more efficient when gathering larger surpluses of food instead of relying on sea weed. The pectoral fins and accelerated swimming of the White Rays allow them to “ram feed” in which they utilize their filter mouth to devour loose plankton in the seas.

The Glaive Eels had relied upon unreliable and vague sight, and regularly suffered due to an inability to spot danger, be they predators or the new, glowing slugs that infested their primary food source. In recent years, a mutation has arisen where the photosensitive regions have begun forming divots that offer a sense of directional awareness. As the processes of natural selection continue, the Glaive Eels develop pinhole eyes, allowing them greater awareness of their surroundings, as well as the capability to avoid predators or slug-infested kelp.
