Dwarf stuck Socilazing
« on: August 25, 2019, 10:16:06 pm »

I have a dwarf who won't stop socilazing, there's no one else to talk to, he hasn't moved, and there are a bunch of other stuff to do, not really sure what's going on, it's not an important dwarf who got struck by this luckily, so if I can't figure it out, no big deal

A dorf who's gone a long time without fulfilling needs may get a non interruptible "job" of fulfilling that need, and it can take some time to do so. Once the need has been fulfilled and there's access to fulfilling the need, future need fulfillment sessions should be shorter. However, there are also various bugs: one is that dorfs worshiping multiple gods get stuck on worshiping one of them, rather than move on to the next one (I don't know if that one has been fixed).

He must have discovered the dwarven equivalent of facebook and is now hopelessly entangled.  It may be worth testing if an engineered disruption to his routine jolts him out of it.

I volunteer siege engineering as the engineering method of choice.  Also by disruption I mean ballista bolt and by routine I mean face.

Of course it might just bounce harmlessly off his pigtail shirt.  Siege weaponry, like the needs system, still has some kinks to work out.

I second the ballista approach.  Just don't use iron ballista heads unless limb amputation is your goal.  You can make just plain wooden ballista arrows for safer encouragement.

Have you tried removing all relevant activity zones so he can't socialize?

Some dwarves pray endlessly in a similar manner when the personality traits are skewed too high. Open a issue report on the bug-tracker please if you have a valid save showing it in action, i haven't heard too many cases of socialising dwarves being glued into place.

Does ballistaing work if he doesn't get hospitalized? I need to test this too, the extra space in the temple will finally come handy.

Im quite sure they were joking and this wasn't a genuine piece of advice.

The ballista is a semi-serious suggestion.  Just make sure you have a stocked hospital ready.  I had a dwarf take 2 point blank ballista hits, lose both legs, and still crawl around forging craft goods, hauling food, and generally remaining a productive member of the fort.

I would try other options first though, given the risk of death.  The first ballista hit tore the heart, and I am still not sure how she survived that.

That was with iron ballista, right? For wooden, I recall one of the childcare approaches pre-43.04 was just leaving ballistas shooting children 336/11.

Anyway, I'd use what Eric Blank said. Dwarf won't go to other areas other than for food/drink/sleep until their Socialize! needs are satisfied, which won't ever happen if they're alone in there as all those needs need multiple people.

My 2 point blank hits were with high quality iron ballista heads.  Each hit severed a leg and also caused much lower body mangling.  Now I'm curious how much less effective plain wooden ballista arrows are at point blank range.
