Welcome, welcome to my parlour, little flies. Would you like some tea? No? Well, how about I tell you a story? I'm certain that afterwards you will understand that I am nothing if not a gracious host, and that sometimes a simple cup of tea and a touch of vanilla is all it takes to save or destroy a life. Now now, don't struggle. The webs are only there to make sure you won't hurt yourself.
Long ago, in a land far to the east, a group of strangers gathered for a traditional tea ceremony, and what strange creatures they were! They all bore their own strange thoughts, though not all of them were entirely benevolent...After many recent novel games, perhaps it's time for a more orthodox one? This game is designed to be simple and beginner-friendly to cleanse the palate and perhaps draw in new players to the subforum. In the vein of FallacyofUrist's
Mostly Vanilla Mafia, surprises are minimal, though slight twists are common.
- The basic flow of the game, as described here, is generally in effect.
- In moderator posts, text in italics is flavour text not intended to convey any mechanically relevant information.
- The list of roles in play will not be revealed upon game start (closed setup). Roles and modifiers will be taken from the Mafiascum list of "normal" roles and modifiers. Multiple players may have the same role.
- All players have a special role of some kind, but for balance reasons, at least one of the following statements is true: "some Town roles have limiting modifiers"; "some non-Town players have multiple roles"; "some non-Town roles have strengthening modifiers".
- Once the game has begun, it is forbidden to communicate about it outside of this thread, except to or through the moderator.
- It is forbidden to directly quote the moderator's posts or messages. Paraphrasing is fine.
- Once you are dead, you may post one "bah"-post that contains no game-relevant information, but cannot perform any actions and may not communicate in any way until the game is over, including in a Mafia Quicktopic.
- This is not a bastard game. Any false information you receive from the moderator is due to the actions of other players. (Yes, this means there are no millers or godfathers).
- Generally, a player won't know whether their action succeeded or failed.
- Players are generally limited to one action per phase.
- Players cannot generally use their roles on themselves.
- Players may choose not to lynch (vote for "no lynch") during the day. At the end of a day, the player with the most votes on them will be lynched. Ties will be broken randomly.
- Natural Action Resolution is in effect. In case of an unresolvable paradox, such as a jailkeeper and roleblocker targeting each other, both actions fail.
- The game will begin in the Day phase. Days last 72 hours. Nights last 48 hours. The day can be extended by 48 hours once per day if voted for by at least half of alive players. Time does not pass on weekends.
- After the first 24 hours of a day, a player is immediately lynched ("hammered") if a 60% majority of possible votes are on them.
- The game ends when a player cannot be prevented from achieving their win condition.
- Where rules or rulings conflict, specific rules trump general rules.
Possible alignments and alignment-specific rules:
- Town: you win when at least one Town player is alive and no Mafia or Serial Killer player is alive.
- Mafia: you win when at least one Mafia player is alive and no Town or Serial Killer player is alive. You may communicate with other players of your alignment at any time using a provided Quicktopic thread. Once per night, one Mafia player may use their action to kill a targeted player.
- Serial Killer: you win when no player of another alignment is alive. Once per night, you may use your action to kill a targeted player.
- Mafia-Ally: you win when at least one Mafia player is alive and no Town or Serial Killer player is alive.
As I plan out the game, I may clarify or even change the rules before gamestart.
