Less that, more me trying to take refuge somewhere when I was stranded with tons of monsters nearby at nighttime. I forgot about creepers.

Grand Sage, check the community book. I have left a response. Also, yes you can build a base at the bay-it's more than encouraged.

Tried again to deliver villagers to Moria. They seem to have gone full retard in wanting to run off in the X+ direction, so I moved them using minecarts.

Again the villagers disappeared upon entering the portal.  It seems villagers just can't use your portal without disappearing. (Or maybe all portals leaving the nether, I haven't tested.)

Sure. I'll give it a shot myself some time when we're both on and you can show me which ones to nick. I'll do it overland. Moria's not far from First Hearth, just up the mountain trail from that snazzy inn.

It looks like the portal to wizard's tower works fine, so I think your dwarven portal is cursed.

(Not sure if it's due to the size of the portal, or that your portals are offset 90 degrees from each other.)
