: "It could have been whoever the first person was. The one who called the bearded guy Salaam. Or maybe not."

I'm starting to think they saw me. And if they did... then I'm REAL.

"That's... troublesome."

It was unclear who William was responding to.

"Hmmm. Perhaps, but we were seeing things from their viewpoint during the whole interaction, no? Perhaps someone else was with them-But it is odd they did not even acknowledge their presence."

: Hmm, that figure... All the times I've seen it, I always assumed it was a reflection of the writer in some kind of mirror. I've never been able to see a clear glimpse of who they were or what they looked like.

At that point Darius entered carrying a metal box with both hands. He set it down on Lev's desk and pointed at a button on the side of it.

: Here it is. This button should start the recording once you press it, and stop it when you press it again. Speak to it, and it will be able to say your own words back whenever you please.

: Ah, excellent. Will one of you try it? It seems simple but the implications are more important than you may think.

[SeriousConcentrate]

Not me, then. Sorry Billy-boy. Guess you really are just crazy.

"I'll try it, I suppose."

William picked up the box and pressed the button, unsure of where he needed to speak into it.

"...Testing?"

You need to say more than one word.

"Um, I guess I'll press the button now."

He pressed the button a second time to stop the recording.

[Sirus]

Jasmine pressed forward through the group, wanting to get a good look at the device. Could it actually do what Lev claimed?

: The button to play your voice back is this one. Darius pushed a button on the other side of the box and the box started producing noise. The voice was slightly garbled, but it was recognizable as William's voice.

"...Testing?

...

Um, I guess I'll press the button now."

: There you go. This is only a very crude prototype, but the original schematics are sure to reveal the way to make it have more functions.

"I suppose you could have someone record a lecture on it and then listen to it again later. Are there any other inventions you've... rediscovered this way?"

Jasmine's eyes lit up, almost literally.

: "Well I'll be, it really can record voices! Can I open it up and see how it works? Please?" She already had some tools in hand. Just in case.

"A device to record voices, that can be very handy, yes. Especially if you manage to hide it well to record a private conversation, I would imagine this could put a lot of important figures in an exposed position. It is their voice against...their own."
"It would not surprise me if it had remained in the past exactly due to the 'risks' it could bring for the wealthy."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I... had not considered that."

"The possibilities for law enforcement... You could record someone confessing to a crime and submit it as evidence before the courts."

"What kind of spells did you have to work on that box to make it do that? I don't think light or dark lines up, but I can't imagine what sort of anima magic would accomplish it..." Amber was just as close as Jasmine was, although she at least didn't seem ready to take it apart just that second.

[SOLDIER First]

”This... This is... I dunno how you managed ta make somethin' like this. It's... incredible."

Uther is squeezed right in between the two mages as if he was still the same age as them. He looks up at Lev, a little hopeful.

”Can I buy it from ya?"
