« on: November 03, 2018, 06:26:29 pm »

After reading tutorials, wiki, and stuffs I started a new game, and surviving two seasons. I got new dwarves coming and there is a guy with criminal profession. Does it do any difference?

That's an immigrant spy posing as a "criminal". Aside from a few bugs, the false profession shouldn't affect play at all.

In my experience, it was a dwarf spy from a goblin civilization, and he was thrown into a spike chamber. He was born in a dwarven civilization, captured and converted to the goblin side, and sent to spy on my fort. However, I've heard it's not always the case that it's an actual spy, similar to Pilgrims and the other jobs of this nature

That was almost certainly a visitor, not a migrant.

It was most certainly NOT a visitor. He was a migrant, from a migrant wave, which is pretty hard to mistake given the way the nit list works. Not to mention Dwarf Therapist is only going to show me my citizens if i'm looking at any of the main screens, and I discovered him accidentally that way. Fortunately, he's full of holes. Unfortunately, I still had to bury him despite his trickery....

His goblin civ history was found in legends viewer after I had killed him, but knowing now that it can also be a local spy I realize that I could've easily killed a compatriot... I should maybe be a little more cautious next time and less murder happy.

Note: Even with no cheats on dwarf therapist still shows you real facts about a unit instead of the assumed identity? Does anyone know of a way to disable this so I can't tell vampires and spies without (unlikely) solid evidence?

So he was from a goblin civ, or he wasn't and was just registered there because he was spying? What did actual in-game Legends mode say? A goblin civ spy as part of a migrant wave is new behaviour and unintended from the way Toady's decribed the system.

Regular dwarf civ spy relocating from goblin civ where he was spying to player fortress as immigrant is the regular known bug.

It's not exactly impossible to make the mistake - I'll note that DT marks one of my accepted bards as having arrived in a migrant wave due accepting them in the same month in DT, and if I had already accepted them as a citizen and they were dwarf, I would need to recall this when looking at them.

Not saying you did this, birdman, just saying it's possible. On a more cheerful note, Staalo recently got almost whole immigrant family with goblin families (sans one middle son) so it is possible you'll get more.
