I don't like being the first to open hostilities even with the Hivers. I'd vote for Lima-1 if it was amended that the fleets would warn Hiver fleets not to mess with them, at least, since I figure you're not going to outright edit out opening hostility.

My plan actually takes a bit of a risk with the Liir -- Engagement Range is pretty damn close range, and not firing on them even if they get that close is a clear sign of actively not wanting to fight.

But if the Hivers, who have consistently expressed a desire to destroy us, and even intended to do so with the Liir before the Liir warned us, get into that range, then they're almost certainly going to attack us, and we have no reason to take any risks with them.

They destroyed Earth anyway (shakes fist)

So reposting all my ground write ups in one place so I don't have to dig through the whole thread for them any more.

"Michael" Interceptor Needlejet
The Michael is a high performance high speed nuclear pulse engined air superiority craft, with four independent internal loading bays for air to air missiles built into both its wings and the main body of the craft, and a nose mounted magnetic autocannon for use when direct fire is called for. The Micheal has room for two crew members, one a dedicated pilot and one a dedicated electronic warfare officer to take full advantage of the Michael's large amount of advanced integrated sensors and even larger ability to command and network with any local "Reliever" class scout drones, allowing it to achieve full electronic superiority over most enemies. Which soon enough leads to full air superiority, as is normal when you know where the enemy is and they don't have a clue where you are.

"Marmaroth" Multirole Combat Tiltrotor
The Marmaroth is the Gaian Regime's iconic combat support aircraft, being a sturdy twin-engined tiltrotor craft able to operate equally well in helicopter mode or as a low flying attack aircraft. The Marmaroth has, besides a copious amount of armor (well, for an aircraft) three separate weapon pods, one on each flank and one on the nose which can be given anything from bombs to autocannons to air to ground missiles in ample amounts. As well, it has a nose mounted targeting laser for use with any artillery assets within networking range, and four locations on the bottom of the craft where a cable may be securely attached, allowing it to act as a light transport helicopter (at least for anything you are willing to dangle below an aircraft as it flies around) when needed. Given that the Marmaroth's duty regularly requires it to not only fly right into the teeth of the enemy defenses but often to linger there, the craft was designed to have no actual pilot, and instead can either be operated by remote uplink or it's onboard dedicated command computer.

"Puriel" Strategic Bomber and "Rahab" Tactical Bomber
Deployed to translate dominance in the air into dominance over the ground, the Puriel and the Rahab are instantly identifiable as related designs with merely a glance, as the primary different between the two is that the Puriel is almost twice as big. This is because the Puriel is designed to fly high steady, over and above the distances enemy air defenses are designed to engage in, even able to scrap the edges of orbit while still providing a stable position for accurate bombing, while the Rahab is designed to fly low and fast, hitting it's target at high speed, dropping a load of booms over it, and then escaping before enemy AA can respond. Both craft normally just carry many variants on bombs, but the Puriel also has the ability to support and fire air launched cruise missiles, even the Apocalypse class nuclear cruise missiles when needed in extreme circumstances. The other main difference is that the Puriel is a human piloted aircraft, while the smaller and more at risk Rahab is either remotely piloted or used as a drone aircraft.

"Reliever" Aerial Scout Drones
Unarmed and small, the Reliever class drones are basically a stealth engine with a bunch of sensors, electronic warfare gizmos, and high quality communications gear attached. It lacks all but the thinnest layer of armor, depending on both active and passive stealth to survive, as well as the small profile that comes from actually being small. Relievers have no direct offensive abilities, baring at most some creative use of their internal destruction charges that are only meant to melt its innards upon capture, but between their abilities to jam, detect, or intercept enemy communications and sensors, as well as the use of their own advanced and wide ranging sensors, they can still shape the course of a war.

Elite - Ground Action Direct Strikeforce (E-GADS)
In the end, it can not be denied. Drones are (at least currently) less effective soldiers then humans themselves. And sometimes you need the best of the best to be the tip of the spear. The Elite Ground Action Direct Strikeforces are formed by the simple measure of skimming the best of the best, the veterans that show themselves in combat and other harsh conditions, from the Gaian Regime Expeditionary Assault Teams and consolidating them into one unit with numbers sufficient that no drones are needed to fill out the unit. Instead, every single soldier in a Ground Action Direct Strikeforce is a living soldier, armed and armored with superior quality (and more expensive) gear then the soldiers of the Gaian Regime Expeditionary Assault Teams (because none of it has to be carried by drones so there's no point in limiting the quality for disguise purposes), and each and every soldier was sent back for a year long elite training course. This course takes the skimmed best of the best and trains them to be even better, the elite tip of the spear the Regime needs when the going gets really tough.

Reinforcement Legion - Attachment
There's a few simply issues with using drones up to keep people safe by expending the drones instead of the people. And that issue is that the drones are, in fact, expended. While this is all well and good for keeping people alive, it can be hard on an Expeditionary Assault Team's supply of drones. A Reinforcement Legion is simply enough drones to make at least another two legions (if the human manpower could be found at least), packed away and ready to be activated as replacements or reinforcements for critical battles as needed.

O - GOD Unit (Olympian - Ground Offensive Determinator Unit)
Sometimes the going gets rough, and when the going gets rough, what you do is call in the people wearing some Olympian Personal Battle Armor. The size of a two story house, each suit of Olympian Personal Battle Armor has a single pilot, curled up in an armored cockpit in the unit's chest, controlling the rest of the suit by way of an advanced Mind-Machine Interface unit. As well as some assistance by integrated battle computers that is. Also in the heavily armored chest is the Anti-Matter reactor that powers the entire suit, where it can be defended by the same heavy armor that protects the pilot.

Each Olympian suit carries twin head mounted point defense/anti-personal light magnetic autocannons, as well as hip packs of short ranged anti-armor rockets, and back and thigh mounted jump/boost jets for high mobility maneuvering. They also carry drone charging and transport sockets on their shoulders. Currently, these are only set to work with the "Reliever" Aerial Scout Drones (of which each Olympian suit carries and controls six, three per shoulder, for informational superiority purposes) of which are also sometimes used to support Gaian Regime Expeditionary Assault Teams, but if other drone designs were to be designed, it would take minimal adaption to add some to an Olympians flock of support drones.

However, despite this wealth of equipment, none of those are the Olympian's primary armaments. That honor goes to its 'hand-held' weaponry, as much as that term is fit for weapons fit for the hands of a two story tall giant robot. For each weapon available to the normal infantry, there is probably a version also designed for an Olympian suit, but a giant robot sized battle rifle is far more impressive then a battle rifle designed for a person to use.

All in all, when a unit of Olympians show up, victory is almost 100% assured.

Design Suggestion : MECHA-KRAKEN
Born from the most crazed dreams of engineers and scientists alike, as well as a healthy helping of movies so old they're in black and white, the MECHA-KRAKEN is now on the scene. This gigantic robotic beast is so huge, a single one is equal, no, more then equal, to an entire regiment of normal soldiers. It's vast mantle is made of 100% Pure Iron, just like a Jaeger, as well as an outer layer of protective bio-plastic armor. Within its meter thick armored mantle lies the central brains, fusion power core, storage bays, an internal autofactory complex capable of taking in material consumed by the MECHA-KRAKEN's all consuming beak and spitting back out expendable combat drones based upon the DEATH marine design. Or maintenance and repair parts, depending. And speaking of that beak, it lies in the center of the mantle, within all of the great mecha-tentacles the beast possesses, equipped with cutting saw edges, internal mouth tentacles with blowtorches, and everything else it needs to eat anything from enemy infantry to enemy tanks to enemy buildings and reduce them to useable resources.

Meanwhile, we must touch on the beast's tentacles themselves. Equipped with dozens of the things, each tentacle was designed by a different engineer, each seeking to outdo all the other engineers in effectiveness, applied firepower, and awesomeness quotient. So, basically, each one is a mobile blender of weapons close and long ranged, ranging from lasers to flamethrowers to plasma guns to experimental anti-matter bomblet launchers to Death Ray based particle cannons, as well as being physically powerful enough to just wrap around an enemy titan and pull it to pieces with some mild exertion.

To deal with the MECHA-KRAKEN's own weight, and to allow it to be land mobile, the construct has enough internal anti-gravity engines, often using the principles of the Bootstrap Engines, to optionally and selectively nullify enough of its own wieght as to be suprisingly speedy even out of the water, while if it is in the water a very large waterjet means it rams through the waves like... well, a multi-ton giant robot octopus-squid.

So order one today, and crush all your foes underneath the tentacles of a true Kaiju!

Doom Ray Revision
This relatively simple revision takes the Death Ray's large mount variant and changes it to focus on firing power instead of firing speed. Instead of going massively parallel for massively increased rate of fire, the Doom Ray variant upsizes and upgrades the reaction chambers so that they can hold stronger particle beams before containment, and also links them to work in unison instead of in a cascade. This results in slower Doom Ray blasts, but each Doom Ray bolt is now a much stronger attack, being the combined fury of the entire cluster of enlarged acceleration chambers.

Deadlier Ray Revision

Our conventional deadray is insufficiently deadly. The deadlier ray resolves this issue by inducing an extremely high energy current into the particle stream. This ensures that when the particle beam hits, not only does it deposit it's kinetic energy into the hull, but it also unleashes a high energy discharge capable of disrupting or destroying electronics through the ship.

Hull polarization

Debris, radioactivity and radiation are the bane of bore technology. Hull polarization is as simple tevhnique thst utilizes an electromagnetic field to sweep the immediate area around a ship's hull from such debris, allowed optimsl operation.

revision: "Killer bee" bomb drone

The honey bee drone has a cargo hold, and tools to carve metal. Clearly there is an opportunity here for weaponization.
The killer bee drone is a simple revision of the honey bee drone. The tools are swapped for specialized ones to break enemy hulls (in particular, a big drill has been a prominent suggestion). cargo space is replaced by a nuclear explosive. the hull is reinforced and more propellant is added. After latching on an hull and securing an hole it keeps digging in until deep inside or until attacked by enemy security forces, at which point it detonates its payload

note: honey bee drones carrying torpedo warheads can do a basic version of this without a revision

Eldnean Today at 6:11 PM
Already sold.

I present to you:

"L'Épée des Astres" Anti-Capital Corvette
L'Épée des Astres is the natural evolution of the sword-like qualities of the Foray, in the form of a corvette-sized ship that is not only shaped like a sword but is, in fact, a sword for all intents and purposes. Whereas the Foray is shaped like a combat knife, the Épée is shaped more like a gladius, with the ship consisting of a flatter blade and with a "hilt" in the rear, a rounder and wider section.

In this hilt section are contained the computing core of the Épée (as the corvette does not have any crew, being instead fully automated and slaveable to the command ship in the system) and a built-in set of five gravity drives -- not full-sized gravity drives, but rather the much smaller ones on the fighters, hooked together with synchronizers. These synchronizers also have upgrade work done in order to attempt to extend the blink drive effect that the Hornets have to the Épée. To this end, the Gravity Drives are also mounted to be movable in order to achieve the same improved blink effect as the Hornets enjoy. The hilt also contains two PEBs.

The "blade" of the Épée consists of a fairly flat structure, which is mostly straight but tapers off into a triangular point. The structure is heavily reinforced specifically to deal with direct impacts -- especially forward impacts, but with some reinforcement for side impact as well. The metal laminate armor, similar to that on the Foray, also plays a role in this reinforcement, with the entire ship having it but the blade having it thicker (and, for that matter, having sharp edges with that armor), and with an especially thick area of armor where the tip is, the blade's triangular tip heavily hardened and thickened in order to be able to bash through the armor of other ships, as the Épée is literally designed to fly into enemy ships very hard and stab into them. (Slashing with gravity drive-induced rotation is also possible, but the ship is only designed for this as a secondary capacity.)

Two chemical thrusters are in the blade of the ship, and can retract in and out of the blade and which can rotate -- facing backwards to further propel the speedy little ship as fast as possible on the approach, and facing forwards once the Épée is lodged into the enemy ship in order to force it out (and blast the entry area with heat and exhaust). The blade also contains a payload of a few of the same nukes as in the Hornet's torpedo, which are deposited through a port just to the right of the tip of the blade, and which are stored in heat-proofed brick-shaped containers, to prevent jostling during the ship's rapid acceleration and preventing heat from disengagement from destroying them before they can actually be detonated.

The ship does not actually have any hardpoints, just a potentially exchangeable payload -- after all, the damage is meant to be done by ramming a corvette-sized sword really hard into something, leaving a payload behind, disengaging, and then detonating the payload.

I'm not sure if this works out in terms of capacity and power, as the capacity is unclear and I couldn't find the tech for the basic chemical thrusters, so I'll need some feedback here.

For cost analysis:

We've lost [T 2,205  O 2,574  M 13,329  E 9,029  S 1,137] in resources,  consisting of a full Galactica (BioCon) and complement, as well as two components worth of Hornets.

Quote from: Cosmic Calamity Shield
When our fleet was launched, they were all equipped with a durable layer of shielding designed to protect the crew from cosmic radiation and micro meteorites. Our recent engagement with the Hiver fleet has proven that we have even more need to perch ourselves from harmful radiation.

The CCS is, quite simply, a layer of depleted Transplutonic material on the outer hull of the ship. It's high density is excellent for absorbing harmful radiation and kinetic impacts with the added bonus of being a poor fusion material. This armour should perform admirably against both masers and nuclear explosives.

Blinkbore drive: revision

The blink mechanism was an astonishing success. dodge, redirect, great utility. But the current mechanism is limited to fighters, while it has been demostrated that a quick jolt might do wonders to the survivability of our other ships.
Enter the blinkbore, designed to be used by large ships with actual bore drives.
The drive is mounted on electromagnetic rails providing rapid acceleration ( on the order of 40g). In order to compelte the jump as fast as possible, the genesis is made to travel across the shortest dimension of the ship; the downside of requiring a larger and less stable bore is helped by an additional component that can provide extra stability for the less than a second travel time. Computationally, the calculation is easy so 2 orthogonal blink vector are continuously calculated in parallel, to allow quick dodge out of harm

Mini Bee:

From our departement of weaponized children's playground equipment,  comes our newest innovation. Recognized from the beginning for it's shockingly effective plasma cutter, the mini-bee is a small, spaceworthy sabotage droid.

Designed to be deployed in swarms  hitching a ride on Hornets, the Minibee  can subtly make it's way to an enemy target where it will then interfere with their operation, by cutting through critical control links, fouling sensors, and providing targetting coordinates for weapon strikes.

To do this, it is equipped with it's trademark plasma cutter, a small collection of explosives, a fully functional navigation suite, a self destruct charge, and a standard issue canister of fire prevention foam. The latter may seem out of the ordinary, but has been justified on the basis that it expands massively, solidifies in space, and that it would be really funny to see a Sunbeam cannon blow itself up.

Gravity deflector

bending spacetime to our whims is a known science by now. We bend it to slip our ships forward. What if, however, we used bent space to move things around the ship?
The deflector is a dish shaped device interacting with the ship's gravity drive and modulating their effect so that instead of acting on the ship and its surroundings, it insteads achieves a stronger warping effect in a shell around the vessel it is mounted on. Such a shell of warped space then deviates and scatter incoming shots, for as long as the deflector disch doesn't overload.

Wave Motion Gun

Building upon existing technology (specifically, the manufacturer's warning of what not do with their technology), the subspace pulse array weaponizes the gravity drives standard in most of our capital vessels. Intended as a dedicated anti-capital ship weapon (native to the large mount) the subspace pulse array is nonetheless quite compact, because of it's multi-use infrastructure. Energy consumption is considerably large, and potentially as much as some smaller vessels.

The Subspace pulse array works first by triggering a harmonic in the gravity engines. Normally an unintended behavior, harmonics gravity waves tend to amplify themselves until the gravity gradient collapses into a partial bore. Avoiding this is the first task of the Subspace pulse array, with it does by destructively interfering with potentially dangerous gradients.

Once the gravity waves have reached a sufficient harmonic strength, the Subspace pulse switches to it's secondary mode of operation. It starts a period of enormously powerful constructive inference. The result is the creation of an unleashed harmonic, a self-reinforcing collection of gravity waves that is ejected from the ship at high velocity. Thanks to the interference of the subspace pulse generator, this harmonic is kept from generating bores because of the alternating field strenghts, considerably extending it's lifetime.

This is bad news for the lifespan of anyone who sees the unleashed harmonic speeding towards them at light speed. Being subjected to crushing gravity forces in rapidly altering direction is rather lethal for crew and equipment. Life animal testing has led to the creation of the designation "accordioned" on the workplace accident report form.
