Glancing at the corner of your app, you see the time is 7:14 AM

"It's only 7:14," you say, realizing as you say this you're not entirely sure what time public schools usually start. 8 o'clock, isn't it? Been a while...

"Yeah mom, don't worry." Something about stepping into this conversation seems awkward. Stacey taps her fingers on the overflowing folio

You turn a corner of a residential street and at last the school comes into view. There's a queue of cars making a circuit through the parking lot, dropping off kids by the administration building. As you join the line, Stacey looks over. "Once you're in, you can drop us off in the staff parking instead of waiting all the way to the curb."

The queue trundles forward. Something buzzes to your left, and Stacey manages to remove her phone while keeping her overstuffed folio closed. "Oh... looks like it's gonna be an unplanned pizza day."

Stanley and Peter both look up. "Why's that?" asks the younger.

"There was a power outage last night and all the cafeteria's food went unrefrigerated for hours."

You pull into the parking lot, and scan around. Yep, there's the staff parking, up near the front. You break away and look for somewhere dry to pull in, as a number of sizeable puddles lay over the asphalt. Hmm, maybe if you pull in backwards. Then the passenger's side doors will be over dry land.

The boys preemptively unbuckle as you pull in and Stacey starts quickly gathering herself up, some of her papers having slipped out despite her white-knuckled grip on the folio. Stanley gets out, his backpack still open, and starts walking away, but turns around after a couple steps. Peter gets out and opens the front passenger door, waiting.

"Thank you!" says Stacey to you as she disembarks. "And thank you, Peter."

"Yeah, no prob." They catch up with Stanley, Stacey stopping to give each of the boys a one-armed hug before returning both arms to clasp the folder tightly against her chest.

Jeez, should probably get a new spare before doing much more driving. It'd be a pain if you got another flat and didn't have one. You pull out of the parking lot and start walking away when you see that message notification on your phone. Oh, right. Guess it can wait a little longer. Don't wanna text and drive.

It's not long before you pull up outside Blue Auto Repair, parking on the curb. A chime tingles as you enter through the store section. Iggy, appearing not to have moved since yesterday, grunts without looking up from today's newspaper. "Hey Mr. Blue," you say. "Where's Steve?"

"He's sick." Iggy turns the pages.
