Lovecraftian Additions 1.4
« on: March 16, 2018, 05:25:54 pm »

I've always liked Lovecraft's work, and I've also always liked Dwarf Fortress. So now the two are one thing. Have fun surviving in a maddening reality where otherdimensional beings and aliens come down from above while the wonders and terrors of the Dreamlands leak out from below. In addition, new secrets have been added. Become a prophet of the dark gods and inflict emotional trauma on people when you preach, or use your own body as a host to temporarily summon a powerful entity from beyond reality! Here's a list of creatures this mod adds. I will probably add more later when I think of them. Note that this is just the raws for the creatures, not the entire game. Drag and drop the files into the raw folder to install.

This mod should be compatible with all other mods that do not remove raws from the vanilla game, and possibly some that do.

Mod: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13571

Here's a list of things this mod adds. I will probably add more later when I think of them.

Regarding permissions, feel free to use these creatures in your own mod if you feel like it, just give me a little line of credit somewhere. This mod is intended to be a free to use library of Lovecraftian beings.

This looks great, I've been missing the old Cthulhu mod. Thanks for making this!

Thanks. This mod is currently going through a dry spell as I search for substantial amounts of creatures that are lower than demigod level to add to the mod but its good to know people like it.

Love the mod!

Maybe add a prefix to your creatures/entities for better compatibility with other mods? I was having the weirdest error where my Dwarf civ was embarking with Elves and not dwarves (heresy) until I narrowed it down to your mod causing it. Was fixed by adding LOVECRAFT_ to all of the creature names.

Ah you have a point there, I've never thought about doing that. I'll get started on that at some point. Going to be leaving to do stuff with family soonish so all my modding is sort of on hold right now.

I have returned from my vacation and users of this mod should be pleased to know that it should now be compatible with the vast majority of other mods, as I have taken all [CREATURE:] titles and made them unique so they do not clash with pre-existing creatures that may exist in other mods.

I'm still a bit busy though so there may be something I missed. If so, please don't hesitate to inform me and I'll get right on it.

It ought to work yes. Until an update happens that significantly alters creature raws, you can assume this mod will work.

Hey, looks great, but I'm having some trouble with the dreamlanders raw. Are they supposed to have any special ablities or only a different description?

As per Lovecraft canon, they are simply immortal humans who have mastered the art of living in the Dreamlands, a dimension encompassing humanity's subconscious that we access when we sleep. A particularly noteworthy example is the protagonist from "The Dream-Quest Of Unknown Kadath".
