A lot of people will probably say keas, but I've had a lot more trouble with monkeys and apes of various sorts invading my above ground forts and causing lots of mischief.

Anything predatory that cannot easily be picked out from the vegetation is bad.  Giant olms are such creatures.

Trees, there's always that possibility that a dwarf will run after an animal/gob/monster and climb a tree and then once the danger is out stay in the tree forever unable to climb down by himself and so die from thirst/hunger without you ever noticing said dwarf was stuck (or just destroy your framerate in case of said stuck dwarf is taken by a mood or is part of a squad that you have assigned a mission to).

Cutting all trees is good, but they respawn constantly, paving everything with floor tiles sounds good but report i had read on this board about every single floor built added to each other can also be impacting performance is less good.

Now on the monster side, most of everything that fly is annoying because your marskdwarves will waste bolts and if not all taken out dwarves will constantly be interrupted during their job by the flying things, making post-battles mess cleaning job even longer.

Werecreatures can be a pain, not because they're hard , but because you have to carefully check every combat report to see if one of the dwarves were bitten, and in that case you have to isolate the unfortunate bugger or find way to send him to dwarven heaven without leading into his friends wanting to avenge him with the hilarious fortress wide civil war that can result.

Before they fixed the undead, they were a sure death sentence for your fort. Now, werebeast are my biggest problem. I don't mind my dwarves dying all that much, but if they can turn, that means I have to closely watch the whole fight.

This is definitely the thing I hate the most.

As for fear?

A flying steel titan with deadly dust and a nasty syndrome effect.

Now, werebeast are my biggest problem.

I'd forgotten about werecreatures, but they actually do probably cause me more trouble than anything else does right now.  They're fearless, immune to pain and appear at the worst possible times and places.  The last few I've had attack me had their guts spilled and multiple limbs hacked off, but still manage to bite the best soldiers I have before they bleed to death.

I think I tend to have more trouble with them because I tend to build above ground forts.  If you're below ground, like a proper dwarf, you're going to have a lot more time to prepare and station guards.  Fishermen and hunters are still at significant risk though.

oh god you just reminded me of Giant Cardinals. They take every chance to cancel a dwarf's job and will scare the living hell out of your animals.
