21st of granite human scholar visit... 7 days after embark.
« on: November 26, 2017, 06:12:45 pm »

7 days after embarking I have a scholar already visiting. I have dug out some initial areas and I have a wagon. That is it. How did this guy even know about my new fortress? Heck, I don't even want to call it a fortress yet. Really it is just a hole in the ground.

This guy must have stalked my 7 dwarves as they made their way here. Just a tad creepy.

Hey, for all you know, he is a perpetual drunkard who left the Mountainhome taverns because the tavern cut his credit. He followed your dwarfs for the hopes of free booze while he "records the great things you will do!"

Of course, he is probably a spy who is planning on selling your fort information to the goblins.

You think you've got problems. I've had elf visitors (at least 8 at any one time) since the first week of the fort. They hung around the wagon while we dug the fort, then hung around the meeting area I made for my starter 7 dorfs with a starter food pile at one side of the tiny rocky space, and a pair of emergency beds and a table and chair at the other side. They often overlap as there isn't much room in my little tiny meeting area. Sometimes some more come and others occasionally leave. So many goddamn elves. Two years in, I still have elf guests, and have only seen dorf merchants, even though theoretically I was up for human and elf merchants. Sigh. Food is at a premium.

[EAT_SAPIENT_KILL] is the accepted solution to such things, in my opinion. Deep-fried elf is preferable to raw, but it will do in a pinch.

I am on the opposite side of the continent from the only human settlements, but a human bard still showed up on year one to hang out at the tavern. Keep your enemies close and your friends closer. Er, vice-versa.

I have like 60 at my fort. they are killing the fps, but soon the elf pit will be finished.

In my first world in 0.44.x dwarves (all 28 of them) are at war with elves, which are the dominant species (there are more elves than goblins, 25k vs. 22k). Immediately after first embark, on the first day, there was (and still is) a visitor elf. He came to the wagon, and is hanging around.

I don't know what he wants, maybe he likes to see one of the last dwarves in existence, but clearly there is no need for time to pass (and rumours to spread) to get visitors. They somehow know. Maybe they are psychics?

I should probably make a elf pit to.I have a ton of elf visitors...I thought raiding a eleven civ. would stop them from coming but apparently not.And I just got a eleven raid and dead elfs are all over and no elf visitors care.By the way elfs are super weak anyone notice that there puny wood swords do like no damage i lost no causalities and there was 25 of them. Soooo weak.

I don't  know... I have only two world in 0.44.x, but in both of them elves seem to be quite powerful. In the second one, they destroyed a gobbo civ in year 157 for example. Maybe they shoot them in the eye or something.

Just mass make iron and steel armor/weapons. Sell it to all non elves. Since elves refuse to pick them up they will eventually be doomed by it in war.

Elves tend to have an interesting variety of powerful tamed creatures to do the heavy lifting. I'm not scared of them, horrified by their mounts sometimes though.

They said the walls were impregnable. You didn't have to prove me wrong by giving birth on them.

Yeah, 41 citizens and 191 guests.   Turns out it is a good thing I Built the outsiders tavern under an aquifer.  Now to devise a drain.

THIS!!  My new fort is on a Terrifying glacier.  Vile ooze falls almost nonstop.  I am surrounded by Dark Pits.  Despite all of this, I had over a dozen elves show up within seconds of my pick leaving the ice and hitting stone.  WTF??  Where did they even come from?  "Scholars", "peddlers", "monster hunters"... all kinds of BS stories.  This is supposed to be a secret fort to surprise the goblins!  WHO TOLD YOU WE WERE EVEN HERE?

I'm new to succession forts in general, yes, but do all forts designed by multiple overseers inevitably degenerate into a body-filled labyrinth of chaos and despair like this? Or is this just a Battlefailed thing?
