1936. A year of change. The Wars of the 19th Century are no more, powder and shot have been replaced by tank and plane. Frigates and Galleons by Destroyers and Battleships.

It is the Age of the Rising Sun. And the Age of the Blood Eagle. And yet. The Cross and the Crescent have stubbornly held on.

Japan

The Troubles are not yet over it seems. Since the Imperialist Faction has taken on ruling in the National Diet, Many of the social reforms established by the Shogunate Faction have disappeared. Indeed this has caused even more unrest among the populace, especiall in the Siberian States. Even now Communisst Revolts are ravaging the territories there.

The Militant movement of both the Reds and the Cadets is growing ever stronger. And large swathes of the Japanese people demand a return to the Social Reforms of the Shogunate Faction.

The most recent uprisings in Siberia were caused by the express outlawing of socialist trade unions and the prohibition of liquor.

Economically Japan is facing a downturn caused by the near endless political instability. The Central Government responded by severly curtailing Administrative and Educational Spending, Cutting most social programs and massively reducing Defensive Spending.

This caused major economical problems upon the Middle Class, as teachers, bureaucrats, small businesses and especially the many many middle class establishments providing the japanese navy and military with guns and food suddenly were without business.

Relations with the various Chinese and Manchu Warlords have normalized over the last few years and the Manchu Warlords agreed to diplomatic meetings in regards to the Mukden-Chongjin Territorial Exchanges.


Persia

How to describe the situation in Persia? Terrifying.

The Collectivization of the Industry and Economy is in full swing actually providing enormous amounts of income to the Persian Treasury which is deeply in debt.

At the same time the people are buckling under a 100% taxation rate, the export economy is rapidly dwindling due to heavy tariffs and some dolt decided that the best thing to do in this major economical and taxation reform is cutting 75% of the Administrative Budget, basically murdering the Communist Bureaucracy in the cradle.

Massive movements of fascists, liberals and basically every existing political persuasion are readying for rebellion, together with the myriad of religious and ethnic minorities of the country.
Together with the lack of any Political Freedom, No Free Speech, No Personal Rights and a lack of even the most Basic of Social Support Persia is on the precipice of butchering itself.

Militarily Persia might aswell have stuck in the 17th Century if it were not for its modernized Infantry. Muzzle-loaded Iron Artillery pieces, Wooden Warships and an Archaic Staff System plague the state military as much as the lack of any post-napoleonic logistics.


Jomsvikings

Politically the Absolute Theocracy headed by the Warchief of the Jomsvikings is as unpopular as never before.  Fascists and Communists are openly questioning the Warchief.

More problematic is a series of nationalist movements which never trul abated and continue to this day. With the Minority of Norwegians and Berbers already up in arms over the political direction of the country, the countryside is teeming with indigenous people bucking for freedom.


Asturias

Just like in Persia, the communist regime is deeply unpopular due to its oppressive taxes and lack of any social support or political freedoms. Indeed even the military seems to be openly mumbling about civil war.


Blackfoot

A country not yet civilized, the last on earth not to have done so already, the Blackfoot are centuries behind the nations surrounding it. All of them hungrily eyeing up its strategic position between the Three Nations of Irish Canada, The United Kingdom of Ireland and New Frisia.


The World at Large

With the beginning of 1936 things continue as usual.

In the United Kingdom, The Civil War against the Communists continues at a snails pace, while Manchuria continues on its endless grind that has seen the death of countless generations.

Swabia is mustering to bring down the French Rebellion in its Southern Territories. The French, lead by their Fascist government are financed mainly by the Italians, who use the nationalist uprising as a thinly veiled attempt at recapturing the territories for Christendom.

Greece in the meantime, now that it is secure in its independence has once more initiated talks with the Byzantine Empire over a Union. Main points of contention are the form of government, aswell as the stance towards Persia.

Navarran Fascists in the West Indies call for closer ties with Colombia and their friends in Haiti. While Colombia is still in Liberals hands, all three nations possess strong fascist movements.

Meanwhile the Bourbon Empire demands return of Basque territories from the Catalans, Observers are pessimistic whether the land dispute will be resolved peacefully.

As it stands the world is in a state of relative peace...the question is, how long will it last?

Turn 1 for the Asturias
The total Proletariat Regime over Asturia, see its mumbling about war with the Fascist. First primarily focusing on preventative measures by appeasing the Fascists, but also preparing when civil war breaks out.

Major Actions
-Encourage Militarism in Asturia: Using political manipulation and propaganda over the people of Asturias; we can make them afraid of our political neighbors, especially the greedy empire of Frisa and Jomsviking dwindling empire. This will make people more susceptible to conscription and mandatory service, also making people think that we need a big military for defense and conquest of claimed Asturian territory.

-Spend money and resources on constructing additional and expanding the foundation of Civilian Factory infrastructure dedicated to creating Iberian Steel exports and that "Car" Project: The Steel Factories Project has not been completed yet? We need an export so that we can economically support us both internally and militarily. The Internal Affairs of Asturia has approved of the funding of constructing new factories for these "mechanized transportation", known as "cars". The Internal Affairs hope this Projects bears fruition and that can be done in as quickly as possible. The exports created through the civilian factories, will help increase economic growth and allow for reductions to taxes or better social welfare.

-Send Diplomats and Emissaries to The Two Germanies (Primary in Greater Saxony) To Improve Relations between Asturia and Greater Saxony; By claiming that we seek interest and diplomatic union between the two countries, we can attempt to improve diplomatic relations by both parties, the Asturias and Greater Saxony will see that we have mutual interests and can help with diplomatic and military affairs that Germany might be involved with, vice versa

Research Team: Light Tanks mk 1; The research time will make way to revolutionize mechanized warfare that can be used quite effectively while flanking; these light tanks shall serve the purpose of mechanized cavalry and serve to perform the hammer and anvil technique; while the infantry fight in trench warfare; these light tanks mobilize behind them and strike them from behind. Utilizing both HE and AT shells, by are dedicated mechanical force that can be used on the move.
Engineering Team; Develop methods of Concentrated Factories: Have the engineering team develop effective methods and means of centralizing industry, that while may be weak towards aerial bombing, will help boost general production efficiently by having an plethora of dedicated space and free area that can be used to construct factories. Concentration is the key to having the most effective form of modern industry.

Minor Act 1: Encourage Iberian Unification: Have the great political authority over Asturia internal affairs; make speeches and create discussion about uniting Iberia under a single banner and that a great military force is needed to retake it.

MAJOR ACTION 1: Industrial modernisation. While Japan boasts a large economy and significant amounts of factories, the matter remains these factories are inefficient and hide untold amounts of obsolete machinery and inefficient practices. A massive effort is directed at re-education, industrialisation and modernisation of the existing factories, as well as integrating the artisans into the industrial economy and ensuring the factories have the manpower to operate them.

MAJOR ACTION 2: Military-Industrial Expansion. The other problem with Japanese industry is the lack of modern equipment for the military. While the rifles and artillery it uses are up to standard, the vehicles it uses are not, to the point where japan has no aviation at all. This must be rectified at once

MAJOR ACTION 3: Social Reform & Welfare. Under direct pressure and command of the Emperor himself, the imperial faction of the diet pushes through major reforms in all aspects of social welfare, along with rescinding the bans on socialist trade unions and lifting the prohibition on alcohol. The schools are not only funded, but have their funding and scope expanded massively with schooling becoming compulsory to attend. Healthcare is likewise funded and expanded on a massive scale. Workplace safety & labour laws are established to firm degrees, banning child labour & mandating a level of safeguards around potentially dangerous machinery. Furthermore, a minimum wage is instituted, ensuring that all workers have the means to provide adequately for themselves, and institutes a system of pensions for the unemployed and the elderly, at the level of the minimum wage to ensure those without work, or are too old to do so are able to survive out of poverty. Funding is restored to ensure that proper administration is carried out.

Research Action: Light Tanks for too long has Japan relied on german tanks, and outdated ones at this. For the sake of the empire this must be reversed and armoured vehicles, proper & modern japanese tanks, must be designed and put into production.

Engineering Action: Militarised Trucks A key component of modern military doctrine is mobility. However the japanese military lacks is as a result of the infantry being restricted to travelling on foot. Effort is made in getting a militarised model of truck capable of effectively getting our troops from one point to another fast.

Minor action 1: First Imperial Convention: The emperor invites the leaders of the Cadets (Young Officer Corps), the Socialists/Communists and the liberals not aligned to the shogunate along with influential members of the imperial faction to discuss politics. The emperor insists that any differences be left outside of this meeting, any blood spilled would be an affront to the emperor.

Minor action 2: The Emperor speaks: Prior to the convention, the emperor makes a rare speech, admonishing the imperial faction acts in regards to spending cuts which had affected the people of the empire for the worse. The imperial faction is to rectify the situation at once, because as much as the situation has stabilised, it could rapidly become unstable.

Major Actions
1. Revitalize Industrial Growth: Columbia has been trailing behind her peers in terms of economic development, it is past time to develop construction industries within the nation, so that we may leverage our enviable position on the Panama to achieve economic growth and national strength.

2. Introduce Government Sponsored Youth Programs: The youth of Columbia are the future of our nation, and they ought to be encouraged. Institute a large scale series of youth programs which emphasize community building, the celebration of Basque culture, and recreation. Activities may include sports, dancing, and learning useful skills. Hopefully this will help foster a sense of national and cultural pride in our nation's youth, and help secure our strength in the years to come.

3. Initiate Talks with the Navarran Government in Exile Columbia is hungry to gain a stake in the Caribbean, and the Liberals are growing more and more wary of the growing Socialist resentment in the country. Extend an open offer to unite the two nations if the government-in-exile accepts being incorporated into the coalition government in its current form, strengthening it against the possibility of socialist takeover.

Research
Light Aircraft While our Navy consists of the bulk of our strength, any technologically superior enemies we make may strike at us from the air, and mitigate our sea advantage. We should prepare for that eventuality by learning how to produce our own fighters.

Engineering
Improve Infantry Weapons Though our navy is strong, our military remains limited. Rather than strain our populace by attempting to greatly expand it in size, we should improve the army which is already present. We can start with designing new and better Infantry Weaponry.

Minor Actions
1. Address the nation, and promise them that as Columbia joins the advanced nations of the world life will improve for everyone within it. With a more modernized country, will come all the comforts of modern living, and a stronger columbia.
2.Condemn those non-basque nations currently competing for basque territory within the Iberian Penninsula. Affirm that Columbia will always be a protector of the interests of Basque peoples throughout the world.
3. Profess respect for the State of Scandinavia. Scandinavia is not only a mighty nation, and the spiritual motherland of the norse faith, but it has been fair to Columbia in the past.
4. Request that Scandinavia allow any access of Norse faithful in Columbia should they choose to undergo pilgrimage to the Fylkirate's holy holdings.

Major Actions

- Tax-Commune Reforms: Businesses and groups of workers are reformed into local socialist unions.  Leadership is elected by workers (from local party members) and given 10% of taxed wealth to spend on the members.  Groups of unions are combined to from local governments, either large cities or regions of smaller ones.  Mayors or governors are elected by the unions leadership.  These local governments are also given 10% of locally taxed wealth to support all the citizens in their geographic region.  This effectively reduces the tax rate by 20% and devolves authority over local matters to more local leadership.

- The Golden Future: Social programs based on the religious demand for charity are announced throughout the land.  Food, shelter, education, health and security in old age will be distributed to all free citizens, in time.  A long list of promises are distributed and plans are made up to begin rolling out some of them nation wide, in a few years.  For now though, the local governments and communes are instructed to provide these services to the best of their ability until the larger programs can be introduced.

- Military Reforms: A system of national service is introduced with existing military units brought into a wider system.  Training and deployment of officers based on loyalty to the state is a focus, along with rotation of units regularly so they do not become attached to the locals.  Other minor changes to improve staffing and logistics are attempted as well.

Research Action: Engines.  Steam or combustion, these weird gizmos are the future.  How do they operate and how can we incorporate them into our industrial model? 

Engineering Action: Modern Artillery; the cannon was originally invented in Persia, but we have become behind the times.  No longer!  We will fire explosive ordinance over the horizon!  A basic upgrade of our current artillery weapons.

Minor Actions:

- Public diplomatic messages to the Jomsvikings asking for access to the holy lands by pilgrims.

- A request to open diplomatic channels to Italy as fellow Abrahamic nations beset by heathens is sent.

- In defiance of normal communist ideology, recognition of the right to free worship is announced, with minor subsidies to allow temples and churches to operate.

Tell the neighbouring countries that attacking us is a bad idea. Our territory is small and worthless. Whatever advantage there is to conquering us is offset by the other two countries who will contest for it. And there's always Japan who would take advantage of their preoccupation to gobble up their land.

Major Actions:

1. Organize 'Storting of Joms': Appeal to the reformist sentiments of the populace by modernizing antiquated Norse rites of assembly. This new Storting will attempt to emancipate minorities under a pretense of a greater 'Jomsafricanic' national identity. The goal is, primarily, to integrate smaller minorities into the larger national identity, or at least speed the assimilation of the largest subsets of non-Norse nationalities. This will be done with an emphasis on the power and sovereignty of the Warchief, and the implicit power of the Norse faith. As such, the Storting will attempt to balance the prevalence of the lesser faiths by empowering Sunni loyalists (as they are the largest heathen faith) and targeting/subverting those with weaker identities (Fetishsit, Native, and Yazidi). Both will be subject to 'Moots,' which will encourage authority figures of smaller factions and tribes to air grievances and sort feuds. With luck, the localized Norse religious authorities can quell the largest threats, or at least identify them without inciting riots.

2. Administration and Budget Reforms: Better now than later. While the preliminary business regarding the Storting is underway, the government will reorganize the national budget where they can to emphasize administrative spending. Tax reforms will come after the Stroting, so spending on the military will have to wait until after the bureaucracy has been sorted out. Hopefully, if the Storting proves fruitful, the administration can cut the fat where they have to and minimize corruption. Granting local sovereignty to Sunni loyalists, where found and properly subdued during the Storting, may reduce administrative burden.

3. Introduce 'Jomsafrican Loyalty Enforcement': Alongside the Storting, we'll emphasis a new nationalistic integrity and loyalty to the Warchief. Basically, it'll be a declaration to dissidents that there are two paths in the near future: obedience to the Moots and chosen representatives, or the wrath of loyalist forces. Most of this new act will be ratified and implemented quietly where possible, so as to corner rebels into a manufactured 'choice'. Basically, if it goes well, it will turn popular sentiment against rebels and dissident forces, painting them as anarchists, dividing them into smaller cells.

Research: Emphasize Mechanization: The sheer amount of resources at the countries disposal are wasted on antiquated and inefficient methods. We need to rethink our ideology regarding production, so we can transform our economy down the line.

Engineering: Emphasize Navy: The current navy is lackluster, to put it lightly. The engineering team's top priority is modernizing the Joms naval capabilities.

Minor Actions:

-Accept Persian call for access to holy lands gracefully, citing a religious duty to muslims regardless of our Norse identity. Use this to stoke favour of Sunni loyalists within our country.

-Celebrate Norse faith with regional sacrifice once the Storting is announced.

-Call frequent homage to the holy land and the Norse faith in the coming months, stoking a global Norse identity.

-Award the first Jomsafrican National Eagle to Adrian Frisvold for repeated distinguished action in loyalty to the nation.

The Year is 1936 and the World is not as we know it. Charlemagne was never known as Charlemagne. Instead he became known as Charles the Blind after a riding accident blinded him permanently. Considered a weak ruler overall, Charles initiated what would be known as the Fall of Christianity. In its place rose once more Norse and Germanic Paganism.

Fast forward a thousand years and we find ourselves in a radically different world.

And thus comes in Irish Canada, with a historian-politician aghast at the state of its current affairs after being newly sworn into office.

Major Action: SUFFRAGE AND EQUALITY FOR WOMEN, GO. With a speech detailing the heavy factual 'evidence' of the importance of depth within social culture, and rather that all peoples are equal; that if man, and males, by their current status, should see that their counterparts and otherwise since the ancient times have also been as meritous; that if males are in anyway higher than females, their perception should match their quality in fully and wholesomely describing why these differences and gaps should even exist in the first place other than conformity and tradition; that mankind creates tradition rather than conforms to it, based on their power to think: That to think about others is one of the foundations of why civilization stands strong in the tests of time, rather than being divisive and associating power with short-term gains and rewards, as man is both a natural and social creature. If education, and other liberties granted to one side are not onto the other, the other should not be judged as anywhere lesser if this exposure, and social support therein, is not present.

Major Action: Subsidize mental health alongside civil freedoms [Focusing much of the surplus into medicare and progress/research investment, and education!][/b]--that there is power in free speech, but human dignity remains above all: That freedom of speech and thought should also be reflective and aware, that perspective and perception should also be as free; as freedom is moreso 'openness' and 'thoughtfulness' than the right to be able to speak, encompassing that and more.

Major Action: Gradually encourage social, civil, and political reforms. That in addition to the above details regarding the society, the administration would reflect its importance in turn. [Nudge both the theme of nepotism, and veer away from party-siding politics] Nepotism and corruption have been cornerstones of many administrations, inasmuch as the nebulous science of politics and attitude has been a point to capitalize on by those of corrupt and shallow mind; yet with the information of both past and present, insight can be seen that it is also one's background outside of politics and authority that affects one's growth and attitude.

With the current time, the stability of Irish Canada would be considered a great opportunity--one which the current leading force wished to use for its maximum benefit. Reforms were a very powerful force to adjust, and gradual integration with inclusivity of being informed about context which made them efficient. There were also adjustments to the 'minor authorities', like police forces, with this rather large theme of social focus (eg Receiving paramilitary training, given the cross-over of the military only being made up of volunteers, alongside community integration with local security forces for better understanding given many culture minorities in many areas)
Minor actions may be part of the flavor noted above with the major actions. I am unsure how to detail these for the GM in a satisfactorily way for him. (eg. Refit Ironclad ships into better roles, they're outdated in the military field but will serve well in the civilian field, with their construction material being used for other ships or retrofitting current ships. Also other things like 'celebrate Leif Eriksson day' because Vinland and all, which makes a tiny dent to our economy but helps population happies and stuff.)

Also did we hit that 1920's note akin to Berlin where people are awesome with LGBT ideas [social sphere], because I'd like to shove that into the social focus because one of the major actions is basically 'make a better social culture, which acts like the background for everything else in life'

Research Team: Better Quality Ships and Construction Techniques. (Pretty much helping out them ol' Ironclads and general civilian transport for trade and industry, since we also control Britain, sucking in the British notions of WE RULE THE SEAS )

Engineering Team: Logistics focus (either into more efficient aircraft, land vehicles, or naval ships). Alongside the research team, there were many outdated husks still being used within the Irish Canadian Military and otherwise--civilian and military planning relied a lot on resources and allocation, especially of vital supplies for the morale of its people (since most of its forces were volunteer, especially), thus focus into logistics improvements and ways to ferry and move stuff was a priority.

Swabian Abwehr Abteilung: Asturien

Report on the Asturian Armadura-I:
The Armadura is fundamentally inferior to our equivalent Panzer IIIs. Yet for a country which hasn't developed any tanks to date it is a major technological leap. At the heart it is a light tank, best used as infantry support or for reconnaissance. The 16mm plating protects against Infantry Weapons but not against any serious tank assaults. with a 37mm cannon it is unable to penetrate our Panzer IIIs but can pose a danger to our Luchs-Scouts. Overall the tank would be to weakly motorized to be used as a Scout and to thinly plated and armed to be used as a frontline vehicle in the Swabian Army. Nonetheless this strong first attempt means we should keep a close eye on future Asturian developments.

Soldier of Fortune - History of Tanks: Japan - The Type-1 Bake-Sho



The Type-1 Bake-Sho was a laudable first attempt by the Japanese to start their own Tank Program. With a 50mm Main Cannon this light tank was more than able to stand up to the Panzer IIIs of Swabian make and even penetrate their heavy 50mm armor. However the light 20mm plating makes the Bake-Sho quite vulnerable and not really a prime choice as a frontline tank. At 50 kilometers per hour the Bake-Sho is fiendishly fast making it nonetheless a dangerous enemy and a extremely dangerous force for flanking manouevers.

Breakthrough in the Air - Colombia Third Country in the World to Produce Airforce Models!

The BT-1 is Colombias first homegrown military airplane, which makes the nation the third producer on the market apart from Italy and the Two Germanies.

The General Secretary of the Islamic Peoples Republic of Persia was kind enough to invite our reporters to show off the progress his country was making since the revolution. Special care was given to the new model Artillery.

While indeed the Persians are now fielding modernized artillery they still follow old precepts of Massed Artillery, which might seem archaic to proponents of Mobile Warfare but is seen as a Revolutionary thought for the Statics.

The Columbian Coalition government is far from united in all things, something that would surely become clear to the Irish Politicians dealing with the Columbia delegation. As such, each of the three political parties sent by that Delegation have their own agenda, with only a few issues in common between them. First of those issues, was receiving acknowledgement from the Irish-Canadian government. With that accomplished, each party begins work on fulfilling their own agenda.
Liberal proposals: The Liberal Party of Columbia is ostensibly at the forefront of this diplomatic mission, and has the most to say. First on their docket is the discussion of opening trade between Columbia and Irish Canada in the form of a trade treaty. For their end, they offer access to the rather extensive Columbian Shipping,
coffee, and the all-precious rubber that their country produces. What they are looking for in return, is access to things like metal and machine parts, which could be used to further industrialise Columbia.
Conservative considerations The conservatives still remember the older wars with the Brazilian Irish, and so they are attempting to gauge how the Canadian Irish feel about the UK of Pictland and Ireland, in the hopes of determining how likely the Canadian Irish are to join in against Columbia should another border war break out.
Fascist considerations The Fascists meanwhile, are rather lukewarm on the current administration in Irish Canada just now, though their interests are similiar to the conservatives. Rather than worrying about Irish aggression however, they seek to gauge how likely the Canadian Irish are to attack the UK over territorial disputes,
 or questions of the legitimacy of the unstable United Kingdom government. The Fascists suggest, that if the Canadians did want to stake some sort of claim on united kingdom territory, that they might find some common cause with Basque Columbians which still resent past wars.

On the Ninth Day the Runes were revealed to him. As is custom around the globe amongst the faithful all lights are extinguished and only relit on the following morning. It is also the time during which youths raise may trees around the globe in front of the dwellings of their intended ones, even while the High Priests sacrifice to the Dead in utter darkness.

Toronto - And in this year too Canada is celebrating the Thrimilci just like it did the Ostara Festival more promiscous and liberal than any other country on the world. Norse countries are far more conservative in regards to homosexuality than the Home Islands. Generally Homosexuality is accepted as long as it is kept private and the partners are in heterosexual relationships or have produced children.

This stems by and large from the Yngre Hávamál, whichw as created during the Reformation of the Norse Faith in the 9th Century. According to it being argr or orgr is acceptable as long as one has fulfilled his duties as a man or a woman. In effect that means that as long as someone reproduces his sexual preferences are his own to decide upon. However the Stigma of being the "Lesser Partner" in a Homosexual Relationship has led many to keep their relationships secret. This does not stem from Homosexuality being considered immoral or false as in Christian Italy but rather it is seen as submitting to the other partner and thus taking a follower or subordinate role. This goes against the ethic of self-reliance which is central in the Norse Faith.

It is thus advised to not bring along Shudo or Nanshoku lovers along to trips into Norse Countries. This is less to avoid diplomatic incidents and more to avoid Emotional Trauma of loved ones as these are liable to suffer social ostracism.
