You speak like it hasn't already. idle / clicker / dating sim / hentai games are already a subgenre.

Are you saying we need a new paperclip game except the AI is remaking the universe into giant golden dongs?

I am working on a game called Prosperity. In 2018 we'll be launching the Steam version with plenty of fancy art! You can play the free text-based version at http://playprosperity.ca

Oh hey, another person I didn't expect to be on Bay12! :D
I tried playing it quite a while ago, though I got a bit frustrated back then from having nearly everyone die from diseases in the first winter. I really should give it a second shot, as it's got quite a good reputation.

The thing that always appealed to me about idle games was the slow reveal of a more complex story/ruleset than you originally thought was there, but that really doesn't have to have anything to do with the idle game genre.

It was the reason I liked A Dark Room and Candy Box, and I wish more non-idle games would follow their examples.

Think of it like Sim City, except with rival mayors that seek to destroy your citizens by arming legions of homeless people and sending them to attack you.

We're missing the point here. We should collab and make a Dwarf Fortress idle game with this.

Basically it starts with "strike the Earth" and you can click to mine or cut trees. Dwarves that you get can be clicked and dragged onto different tasks, giving click-free gains. As the game goes on, the map is revealed deeper and deeper.

I can definitely see the potential for a DF idle game. Click to mine, generating ore and increasing the size of your fortress. At exponentially increasing size intervals you recruit dwarves, which are a resource that can be assigned to auto-dig or generate other resources like booze and wood which can be spent to purchase productivity multipliers. I'd play it.

Except unlike normal incrementals, sometimes things pop up and if you don't deal with it, the fortress dies.

At some point we'll be left with only Adventure mode, because Fortress mode stopped working when the dwarves became totally independent. :P

That concept, or less drastic variations, are actually fairly common in some of the more popular incremental games.
