It'll depend on the event, but a simple "send this unit to investigate" will be enough to tell you more. They may end up in combat, attempt diplomacy, or something else, depending on the units you send and the nature of the event.

Oh. Huh. Can we investigate without taking over the province mentioned? Or is that step uno?

Yes, you can investigate without conquering the territory first.

I have a question or two regarding naval combat. First being do ships exist in sea provinces? Like... They don't like... Dock into coastal provinces? If  they don't exist on land, then a few more questions regarding interactions. When attacking with them, do they actually have to move onto the province that they are attacking, or just existing in the sea province next to it?

Like if I had a ship here:

and I wanted to attack Sheb in Brent S. 3 moves to move into the coastal province next to his lands, could it attack that turn? Or would it need to be 1 sea province closer? If I had spearmen on the ship, could they attack this turn?

Criptfeind: I think it's been said that ships can enter coastal provinces, do so to attack, and participate in the battle.

Ah, sorry. I must have missed that elucidation on naval combat. Whoops.

The Republic was abuzz with the news of their strange visitor. A sentient salamander creature which claimed far off origins and brought news of some conflict far beyond the borders of the republic. Public opinion was split on what to do with the creature, whether it was some as yet unseen breed of beast that needed taming, or a different sort of person worthy of at least some middling level of respect. Opinion was also split as to how to react to it's message and it's leaders requests. A sizable faction (not coincidentally overlapping with those who thought it was a beast) were of the opinion that the messenger should simply be quietly slain and the message ignored. Others thought a more cautious tract was best taken. The most influential lords of the tiefling houses conveyed under Bartiro for several days on the issue.

Perhaps a less esoteric and more direct address then "northern barbarian types" might get a response. Either way this seems a bit premature considering you don't even have borders.

What do you see as your "natural" lands out of curiosity? I'm a little bit jealous of how much room you have up there mostly to yourself.

So, uhm, this seems interesting and I want to join. Is that possible or do I have to wait a few years till the next version of this comes around.

The Bannerstock guild would encourage everyone to calm down and let cooler head prevails.
