Few hours later, the diplomat comes back. He comments that the Cydwyllian nobles were (slightly) impressed that you sent him to negotiate instead of doing something more direct, and thus he had little trouble in negotiations.

The noblemen, unfortunately, were annoyingly insistent on protecting the patriarchal traditions and Cydwyllian sovereignty, and will not hand the throne to you nor will accept you as Doge's regent in Cydwyl.

Instead, till Prince Doge reaches adulthood, a regency council of Cydwyllian noblemen will rule the kingdom, with Queen Eirika as its leader; the woman's age, wisdom and public support still having an impact on local aristocracy. When your son becomes a legal adult at the age of fifteen, only then the noblemen of Cydwyl will hand him the King's crown.

The diplomat also reports that he heard ideas being tossed around about going to war against Methiant to determine who rules what, as well as creation of vassal duchies, and independent duchies, to give those unwilling to submit to Methiant somewhere to live. Some of the less seriously-taken noblemen even loudly considered passing the crown to someone in Helliste or Albionese royal families.

Ultimately, however, Cyl's court decided on that regency council thing. All of this, of course, will not come to fruition if Cyl survives his bout of pneumonia.
