One standard boat ride to another ship and then boarding of a landing craft laterThe ride into Cherbourg is aboard the same kind of landing craft as the initial invasion but this time there are no bullets pinging off the hull. There's a distant sound of gunfire and the occasional resounding boom of shells from the naval bombardment landing, but its overall much smoother sailing. As the boat travels -to where no one can be sure because the hall sides are too high to see over- a soldier with the unit you're aiding shows everyone a map.
"This is what we've got for the most recent map. Its aerial, taken before the bombardment really started. Upper left here is the furthest extension of the harbor, its where we're headed. We already control the harbor and the buildings around it in that yellowish bare dirt section. Beyond that, everything is technically under german control. We're not sure which homes and buildings in there are actually occupied though. We estimate there are probably a hundred or more civilians squatting, acting as resistance, or just hiding in buildings. No idea about the number of germans or their locations other than that they're definately here"
He taps on the gray structure on top of a hill in the bottom right of the image
"Thats the fort. They've got good firing lines on all the homes and areas around here, though we're not really sure their level of accuracy or their ability to pick out small groups from a long distance. Still, I'd stay off the main streets as best you can; there's a ton of forest around here between and behind buildings, perfect cover.
You guys just have to make a path and clear that fort. Clear as many buildings as you can on the way, of course, and take whatever path you want, but that fort is priority one.
We'll try to keep advancing the front behind you to provide support if you need it, but a big part of this is the fact that a small force has more chance to sneak in unnoticed than a full blown assault."
He folds the map back up and then holds it in front of him, scanning the boat.
"You have any more questions? Oh and who is the lead here?" He points the map towards the group and moves it back and forth as though seeking the leader.
