"Good boy."

So, is it permanently pacified now, or just temporarily? If the former, command it not to harm either Ecalir or Darwin, and use it as a mount for a while. If the latter, let it run off for now.

Quickly go check if double jungle is still a thing (make sure to take of poofable stuff first). Does it still poof metal and such? If I take a bit of a leaf outside the jungle, does it retain its poofing nature? If not, does it become just a golden leaf, or a regular plant?

I know I can improve the strength stat of my own body with the plant staff, but could I shift (some of) that to improve a stat like will instead? And can the staff modify best bird Ecalir now?

Sit down and meditate for a while, can I feel the whole jungle? Can I pick out a specific life and see through its senses, maybe even control it for a while? Try to get a better feel for how this connection works and what it can do, and what the limits are, in general. Have Ecalir dunk some cold water on Darwin after 15 or so minutes to ensure he snaps out of it.

EDIT: while traipsing around through the jungle with Ecalir, be on the lookout for signs of mechanist/artifacter/brobot activity. Don't forget to take interesting plant specimens!

Stick with Darwin while he does his nerd shit. Once he's done playing with his staff, go explore the surrounding area a bit together.

Check what interesting fauna and flora are around here, maybe interesting landmarks.
Also make sure to scout out the village "plumbago", which should be around here somewhere according to the map.

Lets get set up for some biomodding, as it's nearly time to go to space.

Grab the d12 Feline, and replace the Thunder word I'm carrying with it.

Check out of this inn, and fly back to Mofette and Alkahest.  Get a room and rent that barn I parked Benedict in last time in Mofette.  Leave the starling there with yet more food.

There's still a day or two before the starling hits critical mass, so go back to the magical research facility, and try to negotiate a swap of my d6 Leather word jade for their d8 Vacuum word jade.  Throw in some money to make it level.

Build up a bit more mana with a return to the human thrill ride stuff.  That brought in over 60 last time, and it's been a few weeks, so should be ready for another try.

Do any light biomodding necessary to make sure the starling doesn't die from, say, choking, and when it's about Saeko's mass, use a Strengthened Bird Reverse-Disease spell to cure it.  Retry if it fails.

Use a d10 Strengthen Speed Feline spell to summon a large, physically capable feline of similar mass to Saeko.  Retry this one as well if it fails.

You pretty quickly find out that the issue they have is a sinkhole to the east of here. They're not sure when it opened up, but right now its something like 20 feet across and growing by the day. Things are coming out of it as well; some harmless, others attack locals and travelers. Its become dangerous to go outside city limits, especially at night.  They'd like you to at the very least plug that hole, but if possible find out why it showed up and wipe out any critters running around.

Spoiler:  Écalir Speedwagon (click to show/hide)

1. Its semi-permanently pacified. It won't go back to aggressive without reason.

2. Double jungle and its poofing abilities are still a thing.

3. You could shift it into will. As per if it can modify creatures as well as control them, you'd have to give it a try.

4. With effort, and good will or senses rolls, you can feel the entire jungle, including spreading out over the whole thing or focusing in. You can see though the eyes of creatures, and control them directly or order them about.  Doing so is easier if you have quiet and can fully concentrate on it, but you CAN do it at any point, its just harder. The limit of it seems to be the edge of the jungle.

5. You gather up any plants that look interesting and find no signs of robots about.

6. This place is a pretty primal jungle; the flora and fauna often resemble things you see today just bigger and meaner. Giant carnivorous boars, massive reptiles, insects about 50 times bigger than they should be, lots of ferns and fronds with no flowering plants as far as you can find. The entire place is in an uproar of course since its been blown open and the creatures are now free to escape into the larger world. The giant cave is now something like a two tiered crater, with the temple at the center and the forest spreading from it out for miles in all directions.

Plumbago is a pretty small town that existed within the pillars of lead. Right now it currently sits within lowest tier of the crater, its buildings intact though immensely overgrown and its people incredibly confused and scared. And probably soon to be eaten if left alone.

"Let's check it out. You have the Word for stone, right? Maybe you could use a spell to see how the hole opened up."

Go to hole. Have the bow ready and look out for flying creatures.
Inspect hole. How deep is it? If it's too dark to see all the way down, use Fire in the Eyes and turn it back off when I look away.
Support Eve, try to minimize damage if her spell fails.

Cast a spell to scan for humans, living and dead. Range of just the depth of the hole.
Also scan hole each separately for drugs, toxins, and volatile objects.
Plant Vierhander in the dirt and feel it carefully for any magnetic disturbances.

If a holecreature is sighted and not hostile, shoot it with a mercury bullet enchanted to expand and then nonlethally catch the target by wrapping and glomming.

Biomod time!

Before I get started, there's one or two precautions to take.  Make sure I've got the texting device within easy reach, and take my armoured clothing off so I don't break it.  I'll cast spells to make it fit later.. hopefully.

If this is somehow all completed successfully, need a new description.  I'll tune it up after refilling on mana back at the base.

Neato. Grab a double jungle leaf and grind it down a bit with some rocks. then apply it to the end of a sharpened stick and use that 'spear' to touch some metal, does it still poof?

Also try applying some of the ground down leaf to the side of a thick branch, then step away and fire a bullet at the branch where the leaf material is. Does the bullet poof before it can reach/damage the branch?

Try to lower str down to d8 again and see if that leaves enough room to bump will up to d10.

Try to modify a jungle creature in a very simple way, say change the color of some feathers on a birb. Should that work, see if it works on Ecalir, again go for something very simple, easy and harmless should it fail (changing feather color seems good, but feel free to go for something else).

"Into the larger world", do you mean they are spreading out over the new jungle or are some of them moving beyond the jungle limits as well into the desert?

While riding Dinomount (name pending), and maybe after calling on a few other critters to act as muscle and to help bring the message across (make sure they are pacified and controlled before going), go to Plumbago. Announce before we go into town that we come in peace and to talk. Then explain that the domain of Excata has been restored to its former glory and that we will give them a chance to be escorted out of the jungle to prevent becoming snacks.

And make sure to tell general jungle critters not to attack any townsfolk yet.

[6v4][NG -4 mana]

The hole that they point you to is a sinkhole, a giant shaft with clearly defined edges that looks almost man made. It goes down for a good 30 or so feet of solid dirt walls before suddenly opening up into a natural cavern below. The floor of the cavern is a giant pile of dirt (what fell from above no doubt) but judging from the dripping water sounds you can hear, its likely a stone cave.  No sign of any critters for the moment, no humans in range, and no deadly objects just sitting around waiting to be ingested. No magnetism either.

Eve says that the hole likely opened up naturally due to weakening from the cavern below. The creatures coming out are likely inhabitants of the cavern, maybe species trapped underground for a long time.

Any expansion of the hole, as the locals said, is likely a sign the entire area might be unstable and prone to collapse.

Spoiler: Nina (click to show/hide)
He tells you he found "Something weird" out in the jungle north of here and was burned trying to pick it up. He can tell you roughly where it was, but not really what it was. This was years ago though, he says.

1. Nay. In fact it seems to lose that ability as soon as the leaf is plucked.
2. It does. [10+2] You feel like you are successful in manipulating their forms, but the form doesn't change? At least not visibly. Maybe their offspring will be different? Or maybe it takes a while to kick in?
3. The jungle has spread out basically over the entire area where the pillars of lead used to be. Its much larger than the space the jungle used to occupy, which is what I mean when I say they're spreading out.
4. [10v2] You ride into town atop your dino, followed by a small  force of giant tigers and somethings that look like gorillas but with 4 arm and boney plates. You tell them the Domain has returned and that you will give them a chance to leave. They seem...less than pleased about you riding in here, telling them they basically have to leave or they'll get eaten.

Alright.

Lets see. [4+4v5][-26 mana] Lucky as heck.

You manage the first point. You end up about 9 feet tall, and proportional except for your head with looks kinda small considering the size of your body. The second is also a success except for the wings. For something of your weight you'd need a wingspan of like 13-15 meters or maybe even larger. At this point relying purely on muscle mass starts to have the issue of exponential growth as you need more muscle to lift more weight and more muscle creates more weight.

The third is acceptable as well. At this point you're at about d12+5 strength. Really pushing the limits of organic capacity.  As per a physical description... Are you aware of what an anime "Muscle Girl" looks like? Because you basically look like a very ripped, very very tall (for a human) anime girl. You don't look physically impossible or anything, but you do look like a weight lifter. Like one of those world's strongest men weight lifters. Not super defined muscle in most places but THICC

Give it a while to see if the changes went through. Try again with a more noticeable change or a change that should be apparent quicker due to faster turnover.

Well, we understand that it's a rather unpleasant situation, but we just work here I mean c'mon.

Tell them we can give them some time to gather their stuff so they don't have to leave empty-handed. For those that refuse to leave, explain that we can maaaybe try to keep the town itself off-limits for the jungle predators but we can't guarantee it, and they wouldn't be able to leave the town perimeter.

Not flying is not an option.  Flying is awesome.

Swap my d4 Ice out for the d8 Vacuum.

Cast a d8 Permanent Strengthen Force Reverse-Vacuum spell on my wings to dramatically increase their ability to move air.  That should help.

Spend my remaining mana on further biomods, aiming to optimize as much as I can manage.  Reduce my excess muscle mass some for a larger wingspan.  Try to tighten things up physically, so I look like some kind of success story from a magical chimeric experiment instead of a failed one, such as a bit larger head, and a bit less ridiculous overall.  I'm willing to drop strength to d12+4.

For invisible changes, work on bones, tendons, ligaments, etcetera.  If I'm satisfied with work there (end to d12), stop for now.

Cast a Strengthen Expand spell to enlarge my armour with the remaining 10 mana, so I can wear it.
