I'm biting the bullet here to get help with animal people

I've decided that I am not going to be able to get this to work without posting it on the forums and asking for help. I didn't want to spoil the mod I was working on, but it must be done.

Giving as little detail about the full mod as I can while giving you the raws, I am trying to make a creature that behaves in a similar way that gorlaks and animal people do. They can be found in the wild, and will occasionally leave the wild and join civilization. They will also be playable in adventure mode.

Many of the things you see here are going to be changed. Their frequency will definitely be lowered, and many of its appearance modifiers will be removed or changed.

Anyway, the problem is that I cannot get this thing to spawn or join civilizations. You cannot yet play it in adventure mode, and I don't know why. It just won't work. And the errorlog isn't helping either, as it has told me nothing about why it isn't working.

Can anyone smarter than me explain this?

Does Arena mode recognize it's there? My first impulse is to assume that the file it's in could have an invalid name.

It can be spawned in the arena.

You didn't add it to the underground animal people civs, right?  Doing so zeros out any wild populations, preventing them from joining regular civs.  And underground civs can't be made playable, so it's hard to tell that they are showing up as part of one.

If not that, I'd guess the [BENIGN] token might be a problem.  It's another one of those biome restriction tokens, like GOOD/EVIL/SAVAGE.

...It is? I was told that creatures couldn't join a civilization unless they had one of those tags and it matched the tag of the civilization. I'll try it out later, thanks for the help!

So I genned another world that didn't have swamp monsters. That was par for the course, but then I had an idea. I created an adventurer and looked at the bestiary, and the swamp monster was not there. I feel like if we can figure out why it isn't in the bestiary, we can find out why it isn't spawning in the world.

Unless animal people just aren't included in the bestiary. That's possible.

I believe only important change was the addition of LARGE_ROAMING, since it didn't start working until the final change I made, which was the addition of the line "[LARGE_ROAMING][DIFFICULTY:2][FREQUENCY:90] UBIQUITOUS ", and you already had a frequency.  However, I didn't test a version with only that added, so it's possible it was a combination of the changes I made.

(Incidentally, this was done by comparing swamp monsters to river zoras from the zelda mod, which turned out to be very similar, and which do join civs)

By adding [LARGE_ROAMING] and [UBIQUITOUS] to the swamp monster, I finally genned a world that swamp monsters can spawn in. Woohoo! Thank you very much for the help!
