I meant automatic/Burst-fire.

I am not sure why you would limit yourself to a rifle that you have to reload after every shot.

Well, if you arent going to eat the thing and you dont need the fur either, then yeah no. Although at least here, hunting with full autos or pistols isnt legal.

When it comes to self-loading small arms, generally fully automatic fire is an extra feature to supplement the one most people use: semi-automatic fire. Firearms that are meant to be primarily used in full auto are the exception rather than the rule.

Full auto and burst are entertaining, and that's about the extent of their utility for civilians as the modes are totally impractical for competitive shooting and cops rarely have a call to employ full auto fire, usually for collateral damage reasons because of the context in which they employ automatic weapons. Militarily speaking, and in the context of small arms only, I'll say that burst is worthless and only particular platforms make effective use of full auto (if you don't have a belt-fed weapon you're simply not going to make effective use of full auto). You can fire pretty quickly on semi just by pulling the trigger, and still retain accuracy, which, some may not realize, is a crucial requirement for effective suppressing fire. Having control over where each shot is going is such an important thing when you are fighting with low-capacity (30 rounds) firearms.

Full auto indeed works, but typically at very close range only or if the gun is controllable enough in full auto or burst mode. A 5.56 rifle is fairly controllable in full auto to reliably hit a torso sized target out to about 25 meters at least even if you're out of breath, but I think say 7,62x39 AK isnt except when shooting blanks. At least it isnt to me.

Similarly a machine gun with bipods can shoot accurate bursts of full auto fire, as can many submachine guns. I have not shot an MP5, but a Suomi KP/31, being almost unbearably heavy(almost 7 kg when loaded), is very controllable even in full auto. You can shoot all 71 in full auto mode while running in a trench, as an individual shot has almost no recoil.

I'm surprised by the number of non-gun ranged weapons. I own a couple of bows because I carve them.

Aside from bows there's...

Spears and Javelins
Slingshots and Slings...
I don't know what else there is...

Also the various sprays and tazers count as ranged weapons.

Sufficiently venomous language counts as well.

Just thought of another, blow darts.

Also, do air powered guns count as non-gunpowder ranged weapons?

There's also nerf guns (which aren't actually weapons anyway), throwing knives, throwing axes/tomahawks....... thrown swords (that would be a desperation move anyway).... anything throwable.....

rockets? Anything thrown? I guess 'non-gunpowder ranged weapons' would have to be defined here.

Sufficiently venomous language counts as well.

lol

Picking up random stuff and throwing it, I guess...

Especially in DF.

Rather sure that over a certain power they do count as firearms.

The girandoni was a general issue combat rifle for some years.

That's a pretty early air-powered gun. They're usually thought of as being more modern. though I'm sure the concept is really old.

edit: Actually, the earliest known air powered gun was made in 1580, there very well could be older prototypes and attemps.

I remember reading somewhere that the US navy SEALs where using a 9mm airrifle for sniping, but couldn't find much information besides that.

I remember reading somewhere that the US navy SEALs where suing a 9mm airrifle for sniping, but couldn't find much information besides that.

I think you meant using, not suing? Makes sense that they would use every advantage that they can get.
