So what were the EXPERTS on the phone telling him? Is he still ignorant at that point? Or soliciting voter fraud?
Trump doesn't believe experts.
Hah not arguing

So what were the EXPERTS on the phone telling him? Is he still ignorant at that point? Or soliciting voter fraud?

Trump doesn't believe experts.

Uhuh nope solicitation is a real thing where no one has to do anything illegal, merely request/discuss it.

I think the message also has to be understood by the other party. IIRC, Raffensperger said later that he didn't feel threatened or that he was being asked to do anything illegal. He said that Trump was just plain wrong on his assertions.

Hey that's a fine response to what I typed, I didn't know that. I thought he was pretty upset the President called and asked about maybe doing possibly questionably legal things. I guess time heals wounds.

I'm still reading through the legalese. Might give a more thorough reply later.

No worries, I'm about to bail anyways, got to get some sleep

Nice talking to you Bumber, I apologize for being frustrated and the Your boy comment. I was worried for 4 years that he wasn't going to leave office but that's no excuse to be harsh to you.

Okay, I read your whole post. It still presumes that Trump is in-fact asking Raffensperger to commit a fraud, rather than just throw out only fraudulent ballots. There remains the possibility that Trump actually believes there is massive fraud, because that's the only possible way he could actually lose, and the experts are just taking what Democrat operatives are saying at face value.

(We live in a world where some of his supporters believe in mole children being rescued from under Central Park. Believing in a massive fraud when your opponents compare you to Hitler, and would do anything it takes to prevent you from continuing your agenda, is sane in comparison. Also, Positivity Bias is a thing. Trump has said he listens to various people around him, then goes with the one that sounds best.)

A Withdrawal Defense is moot if Trump doesn't even believe he was soliciting a crime. IIRC, the other party (Raffensperger) hasn't said he felt he was being asked to commit a crime, either, even now that Trump is out of power. That makes the prosecution's case very difficult, since they don't have either party admitting they interpreted it that way, and they don't have an actual fraud committed to pressure Raffensperger into a plea deal. It's hard to prove in a court of law that it isn't just Trump being delusional.

Nice talking to you Bumber, I apologize for being frustrated and the Your boy comment. I was worried for 4 years that he wasn't going to leave office but that's no excuse to be harsh to you.

No problem. Sorry for not being more direct on what bothered me.

You're inserting yourself into other people's conversations and then getting upset from the inevitable confusion.
There are no private conversations in a public thread. If I had something I wanted to say over an 'overheard' conversation I sometimes interjected in the hope of carrying an issue not (yet) mentioned, perhaps because I'm the only one to think of it, perhaps because of the asychronicity and intermitenf nature of thread participation with many people from various timezones with further dispirate patterns of free time. (And someone who has clearly read new things can later go back and respond to earlier items, as you have. Which may be due to the New Replies mis-linking/dislocation, or just a stroke of inspiration.) If I'm confused over what has been said between two others, I may ask.

Quote
I didn't actually give you a reply on this. I noticed -  but didn't want to pester A "false dilemma" is a logical fallacy creating a false choice between two options. You can allow "544" fraudulent votes OR you can disenfranchise "countless thousands" of voters. It does not consider the possibility for preventing fraud while also making sure legitimate votes can cast their votes.
Given it has been demonstrated that the 'attempts to prevent fraud' , as discussed, were actively disenfranchising non-fraudulent voting, then this remains a true dilemma. This is regardless of the degree of disproportionatality (whether it has a net effect of swinging the vote-difference) or intent (whether the choice of solution was deliberately chosen to 'fix' the alleged problem but also/primarily to enact such a partisan influence over the total).

Quote
You also inserted yourself into my conversation with Duuvian:

...

I actually replied to you on this one, saying: "I don't need to show that to prove what he was asking for."
This is what I mentioned I was taking great pains not to aggressively/insultingly/whatever reply to, so eventually did not. The final reply (which was very tame, of the "maybe you believe this" level of acceptance) sat unsent overnight while I slept on it, then discarded it in the morning. Your lack of response to other items encouraged me to let it drop. In a moment of weakness, I take your current flurry of responses as licence to try to properly close off my part in this by tying up the loose ends.

Quote
In context, Trump is asking Raffensperger to "find 11,780 votes" that went to Biden but were fraudulent and should not be counted. That's perfectly legal if (hypothetically) there are 11,780 fraudulent votes and Raffensperger throws them out, netting Trump a win. It's also perfectly legal if (more likely) there aren't 11,780 votes and Raffensperger doesn't throw out any legal votes.

It's difficult to prove Trump is asking Raffensperger to throw out legal votes when looking at the full context of the call. ...
"You will find", "you know that", etc, are strong language, when coming from a 'superior'. If it is not a command of "do as I say", it's a terrible misunderstanding of what is true and false, and/or a breakdown of theory-of-mind, and/or a sign of being misbriefed. At best, it shows that the President was not well-advised, but that may just be one aspect of an ultimately ill-advised attempt at reality-bending.
...at the time I decided it was too sanctimonious, and I've not really changed that opinion (plus I can now see some better tweaks, if I wanted to continue down that particular rabbithole), but it was still sitting on another tab that I hadn't yet closed but will do now.

Quote
I hope that clears things up.
Not particularly. I understand where you're coming from, but remain unconvinced that you are not just fronting it up/in blissful denial. I'm not qualified enough to try to negotiate an Intervention for you on either of those fronts, if you don't already see this.

Biden's DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas may resume border wall construction to fill in some gaps.

Apparently, it's been costing $6 million per day to have contractors sit idle on already-paid-for wall construction.

There's a post going around about during the runup to the election Biden said something like, "I won't add another inch to the wall" and then now here we are. Dems gonna dem.

I mean, they could just tell the contractors to go home with their pay, I'msure they wouldn't complain. :P

Yeah, I was thinking this but was too tired to put it into words cause just woke up. Then forgot to post, but yeah this. Why not just let them go home with the pay lol, then it makes them look good and makes the contractors/workers happy

True communism does not pay people, not even for doing nothing.

The one where Biden does nothing so I can continue to criticize him for the immigration crisis/kids in kages.  Or the one where he does something so I can say he's doing the thing he said he wouldn't.

I don't mind that he's building the wall. Just thought that you all might.

I am a socialist, and I'd like to know what your preferred government layout would be.

How do you mean, specifically?

I'm fine with universal healthcare (if done in a way that doesn't just add more bloat while keeping regulatory capture.) However, if you're going to grant it to everyone who enters the country (like everyone promised during the Dem primaries,) the system will inevitably collapse.
