Ha! Very European. Or at least British.

It's common practice here to see[1] 109.9 as the pence-per-litre price. So much so that seeing, the other day, a 109.7 was... Odd. Normally, I'd say it's a universal, but it seems this was the exception to prove the rule, you know...

[1] Ok, not 109.9 every time, but .9 at the end. And I'll leave it up to you to convert to USD and your irregular interpretation of gallons. ;)

Looping wayyyyyyy back to the 401k discussion that was touched on - one of the big reasons that 401ks don't work is that people are hit hard by market crashes in retirement, which when combined with the default sub-inflation funds the management companies put your money in, you aren't really growing your money, and if you go higher risk, you get (as mentioned) hit much harder by fluctuations than most people are comfortable with. Pensions were definitely better. And any mention of the federal government not being able to afford pensions should be submitted by the fact that they literally print money, which combined with our falling birthrate is likely to avoid hyperinflation still.

Also, very concerningly, it"s actually an intentional tactic of some religious groups to "out-breed" the nonreligious. Birth shouldn't be a political tool. (It is, however, an ineffective one)

So it appears we have a new country called the "Free State of George Floyd".

I wonder if it'll be true socialism this time.

Seeing little mention of it and less news... and most of the sources of either are ones I'd want other sources for. Call back when someone notices it exists.

Looking up "The Free State of George Floyd" took me to a FOX News article, in which the police claim the autonomous zone doesn't exist:

https://www.foxnews.com/us/minneapolis-autonomous-zone-emergency-response

Quote
Police spokesman John Elder told Fox News there is no autonomous zone but that crowds do interrupt police and medical responders.

"This autonomous zone talk is ridiculous. We literally are patrolling every inch of this city that is public property bar non, period," Elder said, while acknowledging emergency response is difficult in some parts of the city.

I guess the police could be lying here, but the idea of dismissing what the police actually say because that gets in the way of the narrative seems a bit like circular logic. So, if, you know, the cops are saying it doesn't exist then i can see why the 'lamestream media' aren't exactly reporting on it.

Of all the worthless topics brought up for the consideration of the AmeriPol hellscape, this is surely the most worthless.

Eh, US police in general are about as trustworthy as Loki at this point... probably significantly less, really. You don't dismiss what the police are saying due to some kind of narrative thing, you do it because every time we bloody turn around they're spewing one lie or another.

That said, it's not a reason to believe one way or another, cops saying something is like fox saying something, reason to seek third party confirmation and not much else. Which in this case doesn't seem to much exist, so... check back later to see if something actually turns up. Or not, 'cause even if it's a thing it's doubtful it's going to be worth much or any notice. Worthless is probably a pretty good evaluation.

I certainly consider the possible formation of another lawless zone more a topic of consideration than say, the value of a penny. If I'm the only one then I apologize.

You're not, but I'm sure you can understand why the pinkos don't want to talk about such things. It's against the Narrative.

Autonomous zones have been around for ages and pop up often across the US. Raves are often autonomous zones, for example. Burning Man used to be specifically that.

Edit: my statement may not be clear: There's no narrative to go against here. "Lawless zones" have a long history of success as places to enjoy a different form of freedom. The only reason this matters to the right is because cops aren't allowed to kill black people in there.

Are you seriously so far gone that you believe this?

Raves typically take place on private property. Burning Man has had a permit to use public property every time it has been run since the first time, when the organisers deferred to the request of park services and cancelled the actual burning man part.

This is categorically different from rioters seizing public property in the middle of a city, including streets where people actually live. Property owners have rights to their neighbourhoods, which CHAZ, for example, did not respect. Property owners in the CHAZ widely hated it.

Honestly, I don't even care if you get a permit: if you want your autonomous zone, feel free, in my opinion, to go adversely possess some uninhabited chunk of national park. But when people do THAT, the media/bureaucracy axis goes batshit.

There’s a certain something to the Bureau of Land Management being shortened to BLM in that article. Something like split-second confusion each time my eyes pass the acronym.

It’s not too strange the federal authorities are opposed to something like Bundy’s ”zone”; states need recognition to exist, and as such denying their existance is a kind of threat against the (federal) state. Bundy himself might not be the biggest threat, but should the idea become widespread the federal government would actually have lost power over parts of Nevada (or even worse). The federal US gov always has enough military forces to reinstall that power, of course, but that’s never the preferred option, as it brings along a whole slew of other issues.

I don't see a problem with that.

I would not be thrilled if my neighborhood became an autonomous zone.
