POSITIVE CORONAVIRUS NEWS
A couple people who have before utterly refused to so much as talk about our healthcare system because we don't want it to change ever because that Obama guy forced change and it was awful (etc, etc) had positive conversations about healthcare reform with me today.
Coronavirus has shown that our system is laughably unprepared for events such as this. They even referred to it as "single-payer healthcare" instead of "socialism" during the conversation. It's forcing people to confront realities they didn't need to before.
I’m still trying to come to terms with the fact governments are seriously considering lock-downs and 25% of the economy has simply ceased to exist. Astounding. Truly astounding. They didn’t close the pubs during the blitz, but I guess the blitz wasn’t contagious.
Post COVID-19 will be a very different world. It’s encouraging to see some people are questioning the government Intervention = socialism/evil mantra.
Coronavirus might only be 2-3 times a deadly as the flu, but it's significantly more contagious because nobody has been previously exposed and gained an immunity. So you need to multiply that 2-3 by a several times as many people getting it. "Millions dead" doesn't exactly make the economy better, either. The blitz isn't a good comparison, because the blitz killed fewer people, and staying home didn't prevent deaths in the blitz.
Edit: For an on-topic conversation, did anyone else see Biden's Coronavirus ad talking about what a good job Ronald Goddamn Reagan did with the AIDs crisis (ie used it to kill off as many citizens as possible, and take their rights away)?
