Ah, got it, I missed some of the context there.

Carry on!

That "Fair Workweek" thing isn't socialism at all - it makes me feel like there is something nefarious going on attempting to redefine that word.

Workers' rights are orthogonal to the amount of state ownership of production.

It's Forbes. Anything that involves not being able to dick employees/customers over for profit/entertainment is socialism. "Before this socialist state's rights BS, we used to be able to make up work schedules whenever." They're wrong in like 3-4 different ways in one sentence.

In a sense, a democratic state with strong regulations is a form of worker ownership of production.

But it sort of is, in that a true democratic state has it's regulations directly managed by the vote of the people, and therefore by the worker majority.

"Workers" doesn't equal "the public" in political theory though.  It's a subtle distinction.

That is, there's a pretty significant difference between worker-owned companies and public-owned companies.  Rules about scheduling and workers rights are, in my mind, on an independent scale from who owns things.  There is potentially some overlap inasmuch as regulations relate to workers' rights to own companies, but they are really different things.

The congress pulled its head out of its ass for air, and in the brief moment before leaping back into its accustomed darkness, passed a bill in support of the Hong Kong protestors. Trump is taking credit for the bill, as a defensive measure against the fact that he opposed it until it was impossible for him to veto it.

And in today's dose of why the fuck do we allow ICE to continue to exist. Tl;dr, ICE set up a seemingly legit university, had it listed as accredited, took in tuition, so on, so forth, with the explicit intent of shutting down and arresting and/or deporting the legally immigrated students involved. Which they did, to the tune of over two hundred. Basically ran a sting operation where they intentionally entrapped students and then fucked over their student visas, for reasons that seem to rely entirely on fucking victim blaming.

Every one of the fuckers involved in planning and executing this shit should be in jail, and that entire goddamn organization ground to dust.

Allegedly, all but one of the (NON ICE) recruiters has been indicted on charges something like "enticing illegal entry" or something.

This happened before, didn't it? I'm not remembering this from the future, am I?

Also vote Sanders for mass trials of ICE jackboots, etc.

I'unno about before, but the closure and arrests apparently started happening back in January. You might have ran across the story earlier in the year, perhaps.

ICE is executive branch.

President is the correct person.

(Medicare for all, et al, THOSE are the things the President must have cooperation with the legislature to enact.)

I think you have high hopes of what a change in president can do, or are willing to sacrifice democracy to get there.
Make no mistake, as much as one can challenge law, it is useless if one cannot also challenge order. If your Pelosi-types tried to issue arrest warrants on ICE scumfucks they'd just laugh it off with no consequences much like the Trumpsphere are currently ignoring the actual Pelosi's subpoenas.

However, a Sanders presidency is a gigantic step forward in mass left organizing, which is what will actually have the power to challenge order.

As for democracy, call me if you find some. I don't think they sell those here.

I fundamentally reject the idea that there is any division between "government" and economics, or social politics and economics for that matter.

But if you're asking me if I'd pack the courts and ratfuck Republican shotcallers, you bet your ass I would. People's lives are too important to stand on nebulous procedures that god knows the right doesn't even pretend to follow either.

The centrists can have their motions well taken and their time allotted in hell.
