Columbus is fascinating in that he meets a new people who, at least to my knowledge, openly embraced him and showed him kindness that is rarely found in the world especially back then.

Yet his writing... wow!

Yeah he wasn't a very good person (even for the time)
Repay kindness with kidnapping and death seemed to be his motto.

... isn't this like the third time he's told them that or something? I could swear I've heard the words, "Trump's new plan, get generals to make new plan." or variations of it more than once in the last twelve months.

You're probably thinking of health care, where he did the exact same thing.

They're both left-wing, what do you expect?

Though one of the major criticisms of Trump is that he has less specific objections to Obama care and the like, but rather that he is just anti-Obama.

Pretty sure I didn't QUUUUITE say that.

Dude, Johnny, your disconnect is painful, comparing post WW2 US to anything as being in favor of any policy beyond "don't be on the side of the planet where the war happened" is ridiculous, I almost wish you realy were trolling.

You accidentially left out JohnnyYuma's post text, somehow. And Trump was left-wing, now he's helicopter flipping between left wing and right wing. Well, he's been doing right-wing stuff in a 'pandering to his base' kind of way, but still has some pretty progressive/liberal views. He even said he wanted to do universial healthcare before he flipflopped on it.

Also, welcome to AmeriPol thread JohnnyYuma.

If US and Europe maintained the same protectionist policy as in the 1930s there would never be such a huge economic growth, neither would it have happened if we had nationalized everything like the UK or France. There is a reason why the US was so succesful back then and Europe was not. It's ridiculous to believe that it is all because of the war. Socialist governments of European countries (apart from the German one) did everything they could to make things worse with their statist agenda and American companies were allowed to prosper. That's the point.

No, no, the health care I'm much less unsure of. Meant specifically military stuff. Pretty sure there was the ISIS best!plan, and then a few other ones, not including this latest.

There are many things wrong with America since FDR's devastating New Deal: minimum wage, terrible labor laws, income tax, VAT, social security regulated by the state, and newer abominations like Obamacare. Trump does not address most of them: he is anti-Obamacare, but will not get rid of income tax altogether, he just wants to lower it. Good enough, but that's not really a revolutionary change. In most aspects he is the same as his predecessors for decades, more government, more spending, more national debt. The only thing in which he is different is being anti climate change, which might just doom our planet.
I'm gonna have to call Troll on this one. Nobody (especially new enough to get Escaped Lunatic) says those views so matter of factly; anyone genuinely holding them knows that they're unpopular ideas, and wouldn't state them so matter of factly with no prior posts, as if they're obvious with no need to qualify or explain them.

Why does anyone who is not a left-winger has to be a troll? Quite a lot of people in the US are anti-statists and believe that FDR was one of the worst presidents in US history, what's wrong about that?

I suppose if you want to split hairs and go just by FDR's economic role, okay, sure, perhaps.

And yeah, back off a little on calling the new guy a troll. :P

I'm gonna block you after this, of course. But I'll do you a favour and help you with your grade 1 reading comprehension. The bold is the important part.

Sure, FDR did more than New Deal and bullying the Supreme Court that believed his politicies were unconstitutional, and did some good things during WW2, but then he surrendered the entire Eastern Europe to Stalin without opposing him in any way and even kept supplying him through Lend Lease when Stalin was fine on his own (late 1943 and beyond) making our future enemy and world class supervillain significantly stronger. That's more than enough to believe he was a really bad president.

Dude, you're blocking me over this? All I'm saying is there's no need to dogpile on someone who hasn't done anything wrong and not everybody is calling him a troll?

No, it was at the new guy, the one who's trolling attempt amounts to "lol they're leftists, let's just name a bunch of things Leftists Think Are Good and that, instead, They Are Bad, that'll get them riled up"

fucking pick a new shtick, dude, it's kind of getting old now.
