There is a guy raising money to buy the internet histories of all the politicians involved in the recent attack on internet privacy.  Would be juicy as hell if this worked out.

They'll likely just pass a national security exemption for elected officials, but that's not the case yet, and their failure to emulate the UK is our gain.

Um...A national security exemption to what, ISPs' privacy policies?

Wouldn't that be regulation?

I'm sorry TBF, but as you are now a known domestic terrorist sympathizer, pedophile, and abortionist, I cannot provide you with any information about the nature of pending American legislation.

Ignoring that they may give themselves blanket protection.

They might just charge him with treason.

Ahh, but they said the FCC cannot impose such a reg, getting in the way of free market solutions.

Selling their Netflix viewing history, how often the search for porn, or even use bittorrent... Things like that would be very valuable to interested parties, and these clowns have basically said they are totally in favor of letting those interested parties loose with it as long as they buy it from the isps in question.

If Weiner gate wasn't interesting, the fallout of internet era paparazzi stalking use data is sure to be needing popcorn.

Sadly, they will likely pass themselves an exception, rather than recant the idiocy.

Just take your business elsewhere. We all know that ISP's totally aren't a natural monopoly in theory and an actual monopoly in most places.

It needs to be kept under wraps though. If there's a news story or a lot of social media talking about the plan they'll realize their error and just pass themselves exception. It's got to sneak up on them, and a guy going around soliciting donations for it is not subtle.

To admit though in Canada I believe the ISPs are allowed to sell your information.

But they don't and will usually not even let the police look at them without a warrant (they aren't against the police... But they don't want the police to do fishing expeditions using them... like they often do)

Or I am wrong and it is only that ISP information is considered absolutely private and that the police are in fact not allowed to look at it without the co-operation of the ISP or a warrant and cannot consider it to be resisting police (I forget the exact term... it is the one police like to threaten at people regardless of actual guilt).

As I am sure any Canadian will agree, Canada has different cultural norms than the US.

Honestly we could do with a little more of the stereotypical Canadian politeness sometimes.

aaaaand confusingly this article is contradicted in the comment section O_o

Mostly that what the article speaks is how it is currently done... but with what congress passed... it could easily change.

OK, they sell targeting.

How much does Comcast and pals want, for access to serve my "advertisements" to congress preferentially?

You see, once I start getting my code executed on their computers, with the absurd tracking cookie rules we have, I can tag and track the congress critters myself. And yes, that is exactly how a JavaScript in a targeted advert can and does work today.  Cross site tracking is already a thing.

What's that Mr congressman? You think I tracked you specifically? Dont be silly Mr congressman, I tracked all of the senators, not just you! The US senate is my target demographic! Your data is fully anonymized, I assure you!

Would you be interested in meeting other senators who have the same "special interests" as you? Also, this week only, 50% off rubber nun suit rentals!
