  "You know, I agree with the captain there. We been going too soft on them, know what I mean?"

  "I say it's time we stop being polite for the sake of the madam here and start showing these people what a fight is all about."

"Pretty sure they're not interested in stealing from me regardless."

"Dale, I think you might be a sociopath."

  "Well now, that wouldn't be the first time someone's said that to ol' Dale. I guess I can't say one way or the other. Why don't we ask Quetz here?"

Dale turned to the only other person on the team who would likely agree with his assertion that it was time for a bloodbath.

  "Ma'am, you also thinking it's time to stop playing nice?"

"Lemme just clarify somethin’," Wynne said, ”Does the sword drawin’ mean, ‘I ain’t lettin those guys pass’ or, ‘the moment you two get outta the way we’re gonna have a fight’? ‘Cause if it’s the second, we’re gonna have a problem here.” she side-eyed Dale. ”More of a problem.” she corrected.

"They're here for the witch, are they not? As long as your father wants her here I'm not letting her mercenaries pass. Considering that they just brute forced their way passed the others it's only natural to expect a fight. Seems like they feel the same."

Eric ground his teeth together and raised his Axe and shield into position. "No, that's it. You and your men are not enough to outweigh ten thousand gold and I'm sick of pulling punches against people who'd as soon see me dead. Surrender or I will fight to kill. Negotiations are now closed."

Ava thought over what she'd heard the mummified-looking one say.

"Ey, you in the bandages. You know how much Sybil's paying us? If you're already getting paid to stab things, may as well sign on. Unless they're scrounging up ten thousand gold for you somehow."
