QUEST OF THE CHAOS DARK SHADOW EMERALD
This is the world of Targus. Five centuries after the fall of the Last Necromancer, magic had been slowly seeping out from common sight, prompting the opportunistic to improve on technology and bringing on the Fifth Industrial Revolution But This Time With Less Dragons. Now, in modern day, an average person will live in comfort, fulfilling their dreams of filling out tedious forms, being cooped up in their office cubicle, and not fighting zombies- at least, not on Mondays. Orquques, elves, little people, and other humans-but-not-quite are still a common sight, but it had been a while since a dragon attack was seen on the news, or a crazy sorcerer in power armor had formed a nation. If you live in the 0.5th world countries, life in Targus is... mundane.
Unless you're an adventurer.
Whether a ninja viking hailing from the frozen wastes of the Termitica, a rooftop samurai from Obyeo, or a fencing instructor from Doomstadt, you are one of the last adventurers left on the planet, chasing after classified ads in hope of finding anything more interesting and profitable than rescuing kittens from a tree.
In this case, you have been commissioned by a Professor from Cowford to retrieve an artifact known as the Dark Shadow Emerald, a stone known for being a poor emerald (not being green or transparent) and being an amazing black body (draining energy from its surroundings and being exploited by the upper class).
But before the job negotiation begins and you meet your coworkers of dubious repute, first.... who are you?
This campaign runs on Risus: The Anything RPG. It is an RPG system with three pages so just download and read the thing.
http://www222.pair.com/sjohn/downloads.htm#RisusAnything goes for your character and you can make up anything about Targus. It is a world similar to ours, except that it has dragons. This is also high fantasy and low seriousness, so please don't give me an actual realistic character. Or do, if being realistic and grimdark is their shtick. Also, career magic users who aren't stage magicians or researchers in universities don't tend to have an easy time finding a job due to the stigma against magic and its tendency to open a portal to the Oobleck Dimension.
