KOBOLD TAVERN (Suggestion Game) - Test Run
« on: November 08, 2016, 12:50:45 pm »

Hi, this OP will be replaced with a more impressive, semi-illustrated intro when the game actually begins, but for now, I need to test the game's system, so I'm throwing you in without any preamble.

Setting

You control a clan of cutebolds as they try to run a tavern in a fantasy city. 'Nuff said.

How to Play

Each episode has different structures, but is a mix of suggestion game and TACTICAL TAVERN MANAGEMENT. The former you should already know how to handle.

In TACTICAL TAVERN MANAGEMENT, you have to handle a wave of customers coming in to your glorious establishment. You have to take their order, and then serve them what they order before their PATIENCE run out, or they will leave your tavern to spend their hard-earned money elsewhere. If more customers leave than the LOSS THRESHOLD, your reputation and purse will suffer.

To serve your patrons, you get a hand of 5 EVENT CARDS from the EVENT DECK. The cards can be divided into three types:

  • Work Card: Give you opportunity to prepare food and beverages to serve your customers. You can discard these cards to draw more cards.
  • Patron Card: Give you opportunity to take your patrons' order and serve them. You will only get a maximum of one of these cards per draw. They cannot be discarded.
  • Event Card: Beneficial events, or other special events.

To perform most tasks, you need to assign a KOBOLD to them. The KOBOLD will be occupied until the next turn.

When all your kobolds are assigned, or you choose to end the turn because you can't do anything else (For example, those dang patrons flooded your hand) then the turn ends. Your hand is emptied and new cards are drawn, and all your patron's PATIENCE will decrease.

Minisode 0: An Ordinary Day

Tip: Every character has their own traits and quirks that may be handy in certain situations. Get to know them, and their traits will (usually) improve.

Every morning, at 8 o'clock, the Clocktower of Front play its sonorous bells to rouse the city from sleep.

Elder Ars had, of course, woken everyone up at 6 o'clock to prepare for the day.

"Do we really need to.... *yawn*... get up this early, elder?" Gwen asked as she rubbed her eyes, still in her snuggleclothes. The other three young kobolds were as equally sleepy, though Ket had already changed into his armor. Ars would've been happier if he didn't fall asleep behind him.

"You ask that every day, Gwen." Ars said, before smacking his nephew with his staff. Ket swore loudly in perfect Southern Elvish. "Anyways! It's time for our daily commune to the Nameless One, so wake yer arses up!"

Wave 0: 6AM

Adventurers do not often wake up before the Bell ring, and while the tavern's previous owner used to run an inn, the kobolds preferred to have the rooms to themselves. Thus there is time to prepare. Of course, HOT food cannot carry over waves.

DISCARD: THREE PREPARE FOOD

We need the Patron Card, otherwise we can't do what's needed.

-1. If I read the instructions and narrative correctly, customers will only come later, and cards are discarded by ending the turn.

Ars: Nothing
Ket: Prepare Drinks: Mead
Gwen: Prepare Food: Toast
Noc: Prepare Food: Toast
Nem: Prepare Food: Toast

If Assistant or Hyperactive procs: Gwen : Prepare Food: Toast
If Assistant or Hyperactive doesn't proc: Discard Prepare Food. If new card is Prepare Drinks: Ars: Prepare Drinks: Ale

E: Now that I understand better how this works, this is in fact a smart move.
DISCARD: THREE PREPARE FOOD
+1

Nope, you can keep discarding cards indefinitely at this point since there's no patrons. No idea why you would want to do that though. There's totally no rare event cards hidden in the deck. Noooope.

Also sorry I'm not very clear, since I'm actually ironing out the kinks in the system as I go. The final product should be more streamlined, but all UNIVERSAL actions can be undertaken by anyone. I guess Ars just doesn't like to stand and watch a magic toaster?

And if people don't notice, you have 5 patrons left for this wave.

1)  Ars: toast some bread
2)  Ket: toast another bread
Can't. Ars and Ket won't do menial tasks.

3) Nem: Make soup
It'll cool down before a customer comes; not smart.

Oops, we were discussing that as a sample command and I forgot my own rule. :P

Anyways, HOT food won't cool down within a turn, but you can't stockpile them for a second wave. Customers will come in this wave so making soup might be helpful.

So, if our bouncer isnt assigned any tasks, do we just assume hes doing his bouncer things?

Bouncers need people to bounce.

Yep, there's an entire game mechanic devoted to bouncers, but only when the situation calls for it. So he's more or less useless most of the time.

Well, obviously we need to train him to play a lute. That way he can still help by entertaining guests!
