The old are dead, their children do not care about worship.
We are what is left, formless waiting for our place.
Take the position, fight not siblings but eachothers pains and ignorance.

No, that is not how Gauss cannons work! They magnetically propel a chunk of metal toward somebody. They don't magnetically pull at people.  >:(

Necron "Gauss" weapons are not railguns.
They are just named this way.

Atheism is a religion in the sense that bald is a hair colour
So atheism is a religion in most RPG character customization systems?

I think that's actually the case, in games that have specifically atheism.

Re: Neo-greco-roman mysteries discussion: coilguns man
« Reply #113 on: November 01, 2016, 09:03:24 am »

Some places mention that heavy bolters are also coilguns (which makes them have a kicker charge, speed up the projectile by coil and then have a rocket on top of it, because three ways to make a bullet faster is better than one or two... if they only painted them red) but that's very obscure knowledge.
Consider me subscribed to your neo-Roman mystery cult.

I once again feel moved to mention the ToME2 "unbeliever", a class dedicated so staunchly to atheism and disbelief in magic that they exude an antimagic aura.  As they advance in unbelief, the aura grows in size and strength.

if their weapon is badly cursed, they believe even less.  it's wonderfully ridiculous

If you think of religion in the sense of an ideology that grounds your place in the world and provides a large part of your sense of meaning and identity, then I know some people for whom atheism is their religion.

Or anarchism, or environmentalism...

Under the "nine alignments" system, good/neutral/evil cross maps against lawful/neutral/chaotic.

Similarly, the theism/atheism/antitheism spread is often assumed to be theism/agnosticism/atheism, but is actually similarly crossed by fervency/soso-ness/agnosticism to handle the level of doubt separately from the direction (if any) of assumption.

(Not familiar with the "ToME Unbeliever", but sounds like a "fervant antitheist".  Active Disbeliever, not a Casual/whatever Nonbeliever.)

[drunk]

I've been thinking about the seven deadly sins a lot recently
due to NWoD game
where we're possessed by sin-obsessed demons

It's a really cool system I've always kinda liked, particularly alongside the 7 virtues.  I'm just lucky WoD focuses on them!  (virtues and vices)
I think it has trouble translating into modern culture though, at least here in America...  Some are confusingly similar to us, like greed and envy.  Which are pretty close to gluttony really.
And then... pride and lust.  Are those even sins?  Pride is pretty close to fortitude, hope, and faith.  All kinda rely on putting your own self above others.  Your belief in yourself, your personal vision for the future, and your personal morality.

I'm not sure if I'm not understanding these ideas because of the distance of centuries, or if they were always so contradictory.  Either way I do like them in fiction.

And I love this game which lets me wield sloth as a weapon.  The head demon of sloth is the god of innovation...

Atheism is not a religion, it is a word used to describe what I do NOT believe.

This is a common misconception about Atheism. Atheism is not actually about what people do not believe, but rather what they believe is not. Atheism is a faith that divine entities do not exist; a blind faith, considering that it is impossible to prove a negative, therefore any certainty of the lack of a god or gods is pure supposition.

Agnosticism would more accurately fit the description of what one does not believe. Agnostics just acknowledge that we don't know what is going on in this universe and probably never will.

I used to think that, but it's not the case anymore (I think maybe the definitions evolved, now that it's LEGAL to disbelieve)

Agnostic:  The existence of gods is unknowable
Atheist: Simply lack of belief in gods
Antitheist:  Convinced that there are no gods
Super-Antitheist:  Kratos, determined to murder all gods

They aren't exclusive, so I'm an agnostic atheist who also happens to believe in fairies so yeah
