Religion discussion.
« on: October 30, 2016, 11:34:42 am »

I am making thread for religeon. Before you ask, my own religeon is 'undecided'. There is a part of our brain made to belive on some form of god, but who am I to decide which is which. Please no arguing, I will lock this thread if need be.

Also, stupid new religion.
Keeper of the thread: Imic
Pope: Orange wizard
Head abbot: Catmeat
Devil's advocate: Maniniac
High priest: Poketwo
Priest: no - one, yet.
Missionary: no - one, yet.
Divine source of hugs: Thebiggerfish
Competitor to the position of Pope: Penguinofhonor
Other competitor to the position of pope: Teneb
Grisha5: Grisha5

Holy things:
anything that Toady 1 the great says
Un - flavoured tea
Railguns (for some reason)
The god - emperor of mankind from Warhammer 40K
Sigmar (from the original fantasy stuff. Not age of sigmar. That doesn't exist.)
Cacame Awemedinade

Heresy:
Flavoured tea
This thread

I am open to suggestions regarding this system. Remember, this is a joke and is not to be taken seriously.

Isn't a discussion without arguing an oxymoron?

Maybe religeon is something different altogether

It's the Greek version.

Though honestly that might just be hierophany.

Guys, the point of this discussion is now to identify the definition of "Religeon". Get to it.

A quick google identifies that it is a moderately common topic, often in relation to questions about whether it is "true", or what specific "Religeon" the users identify as. One piece of useful information was the following phrase: "atheisum is a religeon", but I wasn't able to get any further explanations as to its characteristics. Wikipedia shows no results, unfortunately, so it must be a particularly esoteric field of study.

It also has an unknown link to the concept of religion, but the exact nature of that link is unclear.

I found mention of it in a book, here. It also makes reference to "religeone," which I can only assume is an archaic spelling, but the appearance of the word "religeon" elsewhere in the text points toward a typo. It's an old book and the diction doesn't quite match modern usage in other places, but near as I can tell it refers to religion as practiced by foreigners.

I just want no-one to be calling each other heretics. Thank you.

I don't really mind, but that wasn't exactly what this thread was intended for. However, it is actually a good idea. Glad I thought of it.

Uh. What if they are heretics, though? I've met a few radicals that considered themselves heretical christians, ferex. And the appellation does have a definition, one that's actually fairly important to recognize and use, particularly in relation to theology or religious history. Certainly using it as an insult would be inappropriate, but in a discussion about religion being able to frankly discuss why you consider a particular sect or tradition heretical is... probably important.

E: Also I'm now getting kind of tempted to try to make something like a shipping chart of heresy. Get as many major (or not) religious denominations together and start making links based on type and extent of divergence. Maybe separate them out by umbrella religion, maybe not.

I think drinking flavored tea instead of pure tea is heretical. As such I call a holy war on the UK, North Africa, and most of the Middle East.

I kind of hope Asia and Japan jump on my bandwagon because they favor pure flavors as well and they'd give me the strenght of numbers I need to enforce my culinary beliefs.

So... soda tea.* Most heretical or just extra heretical?

* Tea steeped in carbonated drink base instead of water.

If I knew of insurgent death squads operating in my area in search of people who did that to their tea, they'd get a hot meal and room for a night anytime at my place for doing God's work.

Wouldn't boiling carbonated water kind of boil off the carbon acid? I have never tried that actually...

In either case, I support this Culinary Inquisition!

Yeah, boiling soda basically turns it flat. If you've got a sweet tooth, some types taste pretty good.

... you really need a sweet tooth, though. "Molten sugar" is one way to describe how it tends to turn out. Kinda' miss it. Can't really drink anything caffeinated, these days.
