King Murdoch - perhaps it would be a good ploy for Scarlet to be all like, ah, well, if I must I will give you my TOTALLY ONLY gun, which I only brought on board because I was worried about the mercy ships and all that parked outside. Where can we get some food and get the hell out of here... Might be more plausible than coming on board with no weapons at all, I don't know how often guns are carried about. Or what contraband weapons might count as.

Also it occurred to me we don't have an exit plan, particularly regarding physically removing the object from the station. Ha.

Not trying to tread on the plan with my next post, just trying to act IC. There is a chance that the scanners won't pick up either weapon; I did mention earlier that she chose the laser rifle specifically because it tended to look more like a personal grooming kit (laser-based, of course, but still a grooming kit) to scans and the flamethrowers are novelty enough that it might throw the sensors off. If it comes to it, she can give up one or the other for the reasons mentioned ("just worried about all the merc ships") and possibly hold on to the one not given up.

Plus if they're immediately hostile upon a lack of cooperation, she's not short a gun, though the laser's not exactly gonna be ready for use.

Well, anyway, since I'm probably going to be resorting to writing in order to keep the part of my brain that's rocking in the corner moaning and clutching its knees to its chest under control, I'll be getting started on at least mini-turns soon.

Now, puzzles, I've talked to a few of you, but here's how they'll probably work in future.

Challenge Puzzles: For certain actions players will be given the option to do a puzzle along with the skill check. This puzzle is entirely voluntary and adds an element of risk, for the d20, think of it as a +4/-2. If you correctly solve the puzzle, it improves your effective roll by +4, enough to make a minor failure a minor success, or a minor success into a massive success. If you fail the puzzle within the time limit, things are worse than if you'd just taken the vanilla option.

Voluntary puzzles are designed as logic problems, and are given a time limit (1-3 days). Once you ask for the puzzle option, you can't take it back. Note, you can ask for a puzzle with pretty much anything, but I may not allow it. It just doesn't make thematic since for me to give a puzzle for when you're trying shank someone.

Long term projects, particularly those assigned to auxiliary crew members, will probably have puzzles associated with them.
