"Pirates, Heretics, Xenos and worse. I see that that the rumors of this being a wild expanse with many areas that need tending too are true. I'm glad to hear that our time here will be productive and plentiful." Nathin said, somewhat to himself, after the explanation of the many areas of the expanse that would need work.

Well, you have some time and if you fail, we just both waste some effort.

The church bells begin ringing in fourth shift, helped by rebroadcasts across the station.  The children are rounded up and three guard platoons move out onto the square, patrolling and making other rounds.  Two are dressed in proper uniforms, red and green respectively, while the third is composed of only half attentive warriors with clubs, furs and colorful plastic hats.  The lights begin changing hue to night blue.

These people will never understand the compromises that need to be made to preserve the borders and expand them.  The are not people of vision, who can keep their heart in the empire while their head and hands do the work.

Then Hereton realizes she is gone, although the suitcase remains.  He is all alone on this long balcony.

Blightfang leaps backwards, turning in the air and slamming into the surprised man who slams to the ground.  His arm flashes out to slash at the beast but hits only air.  Bron runs and leaps onto the knocked down cultist, grabbing his knife arm, locking a leg around the other and gripping his neck with his other arm. (7vs82)  The target struggles to break free but Bron smashes his head against the ground (2 degrees of success strength test) which is not well protected by the now dented thin metal helmet under his hood (Righteous fury [5+4-3+4=10 damage, 5 damage mitigated, 1 level of fatigue).  The man shifts his weight to try and get out from under the attacker but fails when a clawed hand smashes down on a now bruised shoulder.

(Still in grapple, Blightfang is assisting)

As the elder works, asking for tools and referencing his notes you see what he is trying to do.  (very hard technomat check 9v23)  There are similarities between the plans but differences as well, he is combining multiple different designs.  This is greatly against orthodoxy and almost runs into experimental heresy.

Yes, there are many things in the dark which have been lost.  Not only to war and decay but to time.  The plans we build on, how many of them are really copies of copies, flaws present which we are blind to see.

Servitors, an interesting task you set yourself for.  Or perhaps your master sets it for you.  Either way, they must only be constructed in a proper hall, surrounded by those who have been trained a lifetime in ancient ways.  But I suppose a small talk on principles can not hurt.

He makes a note on a copy he is working on, minor circuitry changes in the firing mechanism.

A servitor is composed of three parts, well four if you count the subject itself but we know they are not that important.

First comes the common cybernetics or so one would think.  But the parts for the automatic men must be custom made to allow a more range of free action, a small, dedicated spirit lacking in other bionics.  Needed due to the lack of a whole spirit in the flesh.  Such parts must be replaced and repaired regularly, one might even find something in the archives here.

That is what a servitor is, cutting out parts of the spirit that reside in the mind and replacing it.  Understanding where to cut, what to cut and the skill in how to accomplish that is the second task.  Cut out too much and you have a doorstop, cut out too little and you have a madman.  One will need to speak with a skilled churgeon who does this work, or a heretek, or experiment.  He pauses.  Damning in any way.

The last, and most secret, part is the cogitators themselves.  To take control and yet be subservient, to meld mind and machine.  The systems must be able to adapt to the host, then lock themselves so further learning is impossible.  Only a forge world would have the archives you need.  Or perhaps they could be found elsewhere?

He gently sets down the tools he is using, saying a prayer to each as he does so, the looks up with red eyes into Sierra's.

I seek servants as well, and partners.  Those who can bring new designs and samples for my students to dissect.  One with many faces, or one with a face others have like yourself, will find rewards here that would end with execution elsewhere.  Such pretty bionics, unlike the other who shared your eyes.

Before you ask, a year.  Sought passage off the station, I know not where she went.

Herenton examines the suitcase while attempting to get in contact with the Explorator. Afterall, it may be a bomb or the like, and the person best equipped to find out without opening it is probably them. He also attempts to contact the Captians party, mostly to alert them to the possibility of a job.

Bron readies his manacles and attempts to cuff the grappled cultist.

The knife wielding young man fights back with a fury you had not expected and it takes several minutes to wrench his arms back and get the cuffs on.  Blightfang grabs and secures him while Bron checks the other combatants.  Blightfang's opponents are dead, the mutant's head is still clearly separated and unmoving, the guy with the autogun is sitting in a pool of blood larger then whatever is left inside.

Looks like you can clean up here, grab whichever prisoner and corpses you want for investigation and head out.
The equipment they have is sub par at best and likely tainted but you grab the plasma thing in case it can be traced.

Looking at the restrained cultist, Bron begins to sit down and wipe his chain sword with a nearby piece of cloth.
In a forceful tone, Bron then speaks, "Do you pitiful fools have a base? Where you collaborate with others in your ways? Hell, surely someone must've provided these weapons."
Intimidate, STR (42)

Bron looks at Blightfang as well, "Look around the area, see what you can find that may be of interest. And, the corpses shouldn't be too important, if that matters."

(75v63 fail)He speaks as blood trickles out of the gash in his forehead.

Hal is my name and yeah scrub, we are many, we are everywhere.  Hal has a defiant look, this might take some time. Zolase provides. truth and immortality, we do not fear death.  You are not a hunter of inequity, not with that zeno scum.  Just some pathetic brute.

Blightfang looks over the others, notes that the one who lead you here is still out cold and binds him up.

I am not a lost one.  Flesh calls but I am stronger.  I will feed elsewhere.

That says a loud and commanding voice would make a complex mess, in more ways then one.

A man in dingy white robes carrying a flamer steps in through the shattered windows on the opposite side of the bay.  He has a cranial plate, a long black beard, thin face and you see hints of heavier armor under the robes.  He is followed by a figure in dark grey hooded robes with a closed eye symbol in gold woven to the front.  She, from the voice as her face is not visible, is carrying a blade in one hand and some kind of well crafted pistol in the other.  Her voice drips with hatred.

A xeno, I knew it, the cult is working with them.  Let me gut it.

Amara makes arrangements to visit The Glory and Storm in a few days while Holt finishes up his wine and conversation.  Victor excuses himself early and the other two captains fill him in on some of the other dangers of the expanse, the Black Caravan of traitor marines, the ever shifting Tau worlds, emperor knows how they got here, the unstable Eldar of craftworld Jah'assinh decked out in violet and crimson and random brutality, the Bodathian slavers and false men of Yuludan.

A steward comes up to Holt and asks if he wishes to retire to chambers in the manse or to head back to his ship, there is a curfew during 5th and 6th watch, for very good reasons no one has disclosed.  He can arrange an escort back.

"Who are you, if I may ask?"

Bron makes sure that his high quality equipment is visible to them, along with any insignia displaying his status under Holt Kennoch.

"I'll retire to my ship. The others may stay or come with me at their leisure, but I have grown accustomed to my ancestral housings aboard the Gesture." Of course, the Trades-master insured we would have sub-par housing, accepting that myself would be akin to accepting his insult. "The guards currently accompanying me should prove suitable escort."

Sarvus clicks his tongue, waving dismissively at the twitchy guard. In the quiet, hoarse Low Gothic accent of a scribe, someone only talks about paperwork, and then only rarely, he says " Apologies, madam, and sir. I have a few time sensitive documents I simply must deliver. I had no intention to startle you. As I just cannot delay, perhaps I could offer a few Thrones for your time. I won't be but a moment."
To emphasize his point, Sarvus pulls out a few of the local variety of Throne Gelt,  rubbing the yellow paper slips together for effect.

Amara was pleased and grateful at the Singer-Navigator's request, and also a tad bit surprised at Serge's background (thinking that she could've asked more on him for that matter--although as another note, it does seem more personal than not).

She took down notes on the several mentions of treasure, and other lucrative side-ventures for telling the Captain, but she also gave an offer in return to Merrine--bartering of mutual information, as she was aware (or at least inferring) that they were akin to pioneers in the Aurorus Expanse, and of whom would benefit not just the Rogue Traders they serve, but the Imperium in general if such information was disclosed with control and mutual trust.

> Inquiry? I think? On finding Merrine's intent (although that may be just her also willing to know more just like me--just an inquiry into the matter for more details among navigators)
> Barter, for better maps (or getting shown better maps) if possible.
> Probably use Common Lore (Aurorus Expanse) in helping my dialogue for barter or the other skill?

((Sheet))

"Say, Serge, you do seem uncomfortable with your cousin here--what's on your mind? We're all together for a jolly time."

"Off station. I see. Perhaps, then, such an arrangement between us would be favourable."
She regarded the old mechanicus man a short moment.
"How did you know?" She asked flatly.

Human i am not working together with these...things. Nor would i recommend eating them either, they are lost. Lost to yours and lost to mine. As for where or on what i feed, i do not intend to break your laws, Human Shaper, not as long as i follow the compact.

Good, good.  We have no leader here, each factorium head is their own until we have a replacement sent.  You have my support if you seek a few servators, and you can have access to our archives.

My sensors fade but the log is sound.  Same face but she did not have as pretty bionics as you.  Very desperate, little real knowledge of the true creed.  She traded with an acolyte some strange machines for knowledge, though not what you seek.  The traitor was caught, the tech destroyed and he was sent for a first hand account of what you seek.  We do not know where this "martha" went, although in truth we did not make much of an effort outside our own people.

It is around this time that you get a call from Herenton asking you about how to detect and disarm a trapped briefcase.  Engineseer Axel is actually delighted to help you with such an usual problem and between the two of you it does not look like it is using any of the common detonation devices.

Well, if it is trapped, someone went througha  lot of trouble and expense to kill off one pilot Axel transmits with sarcastic binary preamble.

Hidden roll, you can leave take or open the briefcase as you want.

Blightfang and Bron

The man in robes raises his flamer as you show your insignia and smiles.  You have seen that look before, on a Blood-Claw Tiger which stalked you and a caravan across half a continent.  It quickly changes to a practiced and welcoming mask.

A noble warrior I see!  Father Hebekahia at your service.  I am but a humble pilgrim, on a mission from god to seek out the righteous and reward them.  Too often I am disappointed.  These are my guides.

Blightfang made a chattering noise with his beak

And a good thing Selkie says a high pitched voice from behind you both These Kroot would have your head open before you could get your mind.

You would know about those things!  It thinks to speak like men!

A figure wrapped in grey cloth from head to toe appears out of a shadow from the doorway you both entered from.  They have a wicked looking weapon, as long as a rifle and covered in spiked blades with an odd red glow.

Dogs of the false gods!  You will get nothing from me.  Shouts your prisoner.

Yes, Yes.  You will have time to confess later.  For now I was wondering if the man holding your chains could turn these two over to me for a counseling session.  You have interrupted my plans with your glorious but misguided assault and I need to salvage what I can.  A trader of... He says less certain ...Kennoch?  They are back in action?  Well, your employer would be up for trade then?

Amara

Amara spends some time trying to pry more information from the pair of navigators and discover little useful.  Both steer the conversation away from topics of their family.  This could really be anything from family secrets to just a natural desire for privacy.  Despite this you manage to get a promise for Merrine to tour the Runecaster with Serge on board your ship in exchange for looking over some of her maps.

Failed on navigator lore and inquiry tests, but barter went more then well.  You will need to do some long term research and have a destination in mind (talk to the captain and crew about where you will all be going) but you will have temporary access to some good charts.

Sarvus

Wat does this guy think we are Steffen?  Mindless guards?  That git hired the best, so you are not getting through! says the first guard, raising a lasgun.

Oh no wrong again Lessa.  He hired the best at low prices and we wtill got the bet to pay off says the other guard as he grabs the fistfull of thrones.  Then in high Gothic he extols you with a wink The faithful walk quietly and pay what they owe.  You will do the same, right?

Lessa lowers her gun and punches a wall cursing as the two of you make your way in further.  Fail deceive, success on bribe/barter.

Zayer brings you up to an unmarked door and somehow knows it is a side entrance to the Harbor-Master's office.  You enter and see a space that must have three or four scribes working at a time besides the very large desk for the very large man himself.  Hand inked papers covered in numbers are pinned to every wall.  The place has no people in it at the moment.

Well do your thing I guess? says Zayer in an uncertain tone I am going to uh loot his private chambers.  Yeah that's it.  He disappears through a door to the right.

You can explore his work space or follow to the man's private chambers.

Holt Nathin Amara Herenton Anarette

The five of you exit the party through a side entrance.  Beggars look up as the crew passes, a few scurrying through maintenance hatches as they catch sight of the armed group.  It seems you can head back the way you came or take a shot at finding an alternative route back to the dock.

Once you get back to the ship and we finish up Blightfang Bron and Servus's side tracks we can go to some longer narrative time.
