He sighs, and sets down his knife and current honeycomb. "That's the thing about the infinite. Whatever you do, whatever choice you make, there is always somewhere and somewhen that you did something differently. There's a version of me somewhere that's let all of you die, or even killed you himself. There's a version of me that already brought you home. And maybe that'd be in me future, waiting for me to do so and become him. But if I don't, there's still some version  of me somewhere that takes some version of you to some version of your home. And if I did, there's always going to be some version of your home without you. And despite all that, there's some things even I can't escape from. So, you may see why it's hard for me to give a damn."
