But yeah, I can imagine this going fairly well at the start (Tactful King, yay!)--and given that we're probably THE law in the land (or the major lawmaker anyway), this can go pretty well

From what I recall of my history, being gay wasn't frowned upon for a long time (iirc the Great Awakening soured that), but it was tolerated on the condition that you still did your duty; that is to say produced a decent number of heirs. So telling him to do so shouldn't be overly shocking, though modern ethical standards might question it.
