Has the militia gotten stupider?
« on: August 12, 2016, 10:12:41 am »

Another observation from the fire breathing toad disaster:

I've known that the DF army system is rather bothersome, but it was particularly frustrating to repeatedly tell the remnants of my army to sic the beast or at least station nearby, and this legendary swordsdwarf just stands there, with no evidence of injury, weariness, or other illness to detain him.

Anyone else notice this or have an explanation?

I can only think of is that path to target is on fire, thus blocked?  Smoke also block paths.

Smoke could be it. This being in a stone hallway, fire couldn't be it.

Though I think it the path was clear at one point and the swordsdwarf was still standing there almost within sight of the beast.

Girls go to Jupiter to get more stupider
Boys go to mars to fix big muscle cars.

Dude. As bad as that is, that's not prose. This is prose.

for whether to provide a repose to the insinuations depends not upon the merit contained therein
rather it is flittered away within the heart of every manfibian
-that beast most civil and with slick treachery-
There  amoungst the innumerable children spawned
Their children, who know naught but their antecessors
all lined up, all bottled up, all locked within a lexicon that is itself a creation of their Father

He who Armok weeps for, bawling and proposing through the masses
wailing, arms aloft in the sky, searching for a hint of recognition
Acrost the sea of numbers he shall perhaps this day deign to begin his work

Pathing is annoying sometimes as is morale.

Thats my modern poem, rebelling from all old rules. Its still going on.

Another observation from the fire breathing toad disaster:

Anyone else notice this or have an explanation?

I notably had this happen when trying to fight a modded siege of fire imps.

After they set the vegetation in the narrow tunnels on fire, they effectively created a firewall that split my troops in half. I could only watch in frustration as my veterans trapped in the front of the tunnel were easily surrounded and slain by whips and morningstars.

When I tried to pave the tunnel with stone, I still noticed this problem. It might have to do with the ground becoming dangerously hot after fire attacks, preventing dwarves from pathing over it.

Ooooohhhh, that makes too much sense.

I wonder if there's a way to confirm if that's the case, to check the ambient temperature on a given square.

DFHack has the probe command.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

Its annoying to check every square though, then again you probably know exactly where the fire was.
