Raioyris continues to succor Cordelia in his arms, a crow's night vision is poor. He ventures into the dark, his own night vison is exceptional.

Raioyris means to explore and the loading tower.

Sorry for the delay, a certain project of mine is ramping up. I might be busier than normal in the following weeks.

Eternal City, Planet II, ??? system, Laniakea Supercluster, (Day 2, Year 0 post-awakening)

"It's probably a bad idea for all of us to go in a dark, cramped subway. Some of us should explore the rest of the city, maybe find out where those skeletons came from."

Stay above ground and watch the area close to the entrance for potential dangers.

You watch as your teammates run helplessly to their dooms, despite your warnings. In the meantime, the Maimondes being descides to strike up a conversation with you.
Spoiler: Text Message (click to show/hide)

While reading the message, your sensors register something falling on top of your head. You shine your light upward and notice flakes falling in the air.

Snow.

"At least until one of us finds a source of light to carry."

Nix heads back up, exploring the nearest open building.

These buildings are all rather open, but you pick the one right next to you.
The floorplan is alien, to say the least. Whatever pieces of furniture left are all storage containers, filled with bits and pieces of datachips, disks, plaques... it's all rather eerie.

Go down the subway, cautiously.

You enter the subway, skittering down the ladders and handholds, proceeding further into the tunnel as the floor transitions from a scattering of soft, fluffy snow to hard steel.

It is dark. But as you walk further down the tunnel, you notice proximity-sensing lights turn on silently. Your eyes meet sweet light once more... but this is not the warm and soft glow of a living star but the cold, eerie diffuse light that filled that station you were reborn on. You see the light fixtures themselves: LED's, coated in plastic partially eaten away, but intact enough to work. You're surprised there's still power.

You see a shadow just around the bend in the distance. One blink, and it's gone, but you're sure it was there. [d8:4] You think you saw... a glaive? Some sort of polearm?

Raioyris continues to succor Cordelia in his arms, a crow's night vision is poor. He ventures into the dark, his own night vison is exceptional.

Raioyris means to explore and the loading tower.
Kensei follows after Raiyoris, turning his camera light glow up to maximum.

Exceptional vision doesn't quite cut it. There is almost no light. You can't just see magically. However, Kensei's glow provides ample reflection.
You find several undisturbed husks of ancient sphere-shaped vehicles meant to ride the monorail. Each one has an arm which it uses to grab onto the rail and propel itself, apparently hovering over the surface (trapped in a magnetic field perhaps). Up to four of these can inhabit the same rail at once, rotating around the rail in order to avoid each other. Curiously, none of them seem to have controls, or seats for that matter. The spheres are merely a sort of gimbal to keep a platform inside level, and everything else is automated.

Each monorail itself consists of three rails spaced several meters apart, with bridges between them. The bridges have special rotating platforms used to service the rails. Each bridge has a lip that would keep a wheeled object from going over... but no guard rail.
On top of the bridges there seem to be a lot of dead soldiers in grey uniform stahlhelms... most of them are in the process of freeze-drying, their bodies still somewhat warm but rapidly losing fluids. They fit the popular conception of a 'zombie' quite well. One of them, however, appears barely alive, shivering profusely against the wall while huddled against other bodies. His skin looks to be in better condition than the others, and he looks almost human save for the freeze-dried skin. His dog tags read 'Hans.'

Also, it is now snowing. Would you look at that.

Eh... whelp, I might as well try climbing then.

[d4: 3] You pull your lightweight body up along frame of the old arcology, using vines as handholds when necessary. Eventually you make it up and stare into the deep abyss of the tunnel to your north... and find that it is full of rapidly decaying, frozen soldiers.

The tunnel to the south leads to a loading station where these large sphere-shaped trams seem to attach to the rails. The trams don't look like they have any sort of wheels, and while the whole system is offline it looks like it's in good condition, built from non-corrosive materials.

Snow rains down from above, already forming a thin layer around the corpses, although the flakes lightly hiss each time one lands on a body. They're still warm.

"Hans! On your feet soldier! Vite! Schnell! Hayakusiro!" Raioyris commands in his best angry drill sergeant voice, "What happened? Vous faites quoi? You going to speak Hans?!"

Raioyris casually walks over to Hans, studying the near dead soldier.  Cordelia plops to the ground and begins trotting around in Kensei's lamp light.

Unless Hans suddenly comes to life...

"Kensei I'm going to check out that crane. You should stay down here. With some luck and cordination perhaps we can get this subway operational."

Eternal City, Planet II, ??? system, Laniakea Supercluster, (Day 2, Year 0 post-awakening)

Carry on walking, keeping my eyes open for the polearm.

You keep an eye out for the polearm, focusing entirely on looking for long, pointy objects. You pass a corner and pause at the sight of several polearm-shaped utility levers used to control the cooling system. You then encounter a closet in the wall, decorated with an alien glyph that looks suspiciously like a halberd with two crescent blades.

The walking figure seems to be gone. On the other side is a dead end with ladders leading up to the loading tower above. Here at the subway level there is a storage tunnel containing sphere-shaped subway units which don't have any sort of wheels or anything to cling to the rails. You hear a commotion up above, despite the thin atmosphere.

Kensei will keep a camera out for danger.
[/quote]

Both of you are up on the bridge, along with the soldiers.
The dying soldier glances at Raioyris and reaches out, arm twitching... As Raioyris leaves, the soldier crawls along after him, and Kensei when Rai gets too far. Cordelia eyes the writhing creature with disgust.

[Int - d10: 4] With some contemplation, you determine that the subway needs power. Also, high speed machinery left alone for billions if not trillions of years tends to not be safe after a while. You'll need to power it on and run some diagnostics, which would be possible with a bit of cybermancy depending on the tech level of the city.

Explore building further, keeping an eye out for any sort of fabric to tie around the wound on my foot

[d12: 5] It seems that your foot is healing quickly, and the wound was only superficial. Fate has smiled!

You continue exploring the building, scrounging among piles of old relics and artifacts. Someone in this city had a serious interest in alien civilizations, but not so much their technology. You don't find anything useful as equipment, but you do find a decorative tassel in good condition.

(The tassel adds +1 to a piece of equipment and grants it a random enchantment (mostly positive), which is more powerful based on the strength of the equipment. You can put it on anything that grants a bonus.)

You also find some alien glyphs on a locked door. The door seems to lack a handle, but the seam is pretty open. There are also screens around it connected to power conduits on the walls which go up to the ceiling, and you notice an opening to a ventilation shaft on the ceiling as well. Markings on the wall with arrows seem to give directions, but you don't know the language (yet?).

I Walk up to on and Poke it.

The zombie comes to life as you poke it, causing a great deal of visible static in your life support field. It gives you a low-power message with an alarm blaring in your ear, and suddenly you feel very cold... but not enough to keep you from running.

It seems reanimated now, able to run and chase at the full limits of human(oid) performance. You're not sure if it's human, but it would be quite the coincidence if it were considering what the Digitals told you.

Nix follows the arrows in the facility, applying the tassel to his sword.

The sword glows with blue veins of plasma. Tiny sparks form as the structure of the sword alters itself on a molecular scale. It gained energy charge, and can now upgrade itself with the application of electricity. You'll have to physically run current through it to get it to work.

"The gravity wave was probably the portal that the skeleton opened up. Nothing we didn't already know. The snow is a bit disconcerting though"

Investigate a nearby untouched building.

It then travels around the group of guards like a boomerang. It (5) Slits another throat, (Three 6's in a row!) decapitates three more (!), (4) slices open the last guard's arm, and (2) narrowly misses a random bystander. It then flies back into your hand. Holy crap.

Look for a way to power the subway. "Looks like we'll need either of our resident scary android AIs. I imagine a subway is a large step towards finding our goal; we'll need the mobility."

Cordelia pecks nonchalantly at the ground.

"Cordelia. This is a God damned tundra with literal skeleton people, don't expect to find any french fries."

Cordelia continues, blissfully ignoring Raioyris.

"I can tell when you're just doing something to spite me you know."
