Beta Testers: The Game 0/inf [OOC]
« on: July 16, 2016, 04:58:41 pm »

You were brought here to test out different universes. The rules change, and the stories change, but one thing stays the same: You. Every time, you are transferred as you are (or as closely as possible) to the next universe. They told you when you signed up you probably wouldn't come back, but you'll see about that. Oh, there's also a reward for the one that survives the longest.

So, basically, I want to do a game, but I have yet to figure out the exact details of attributes and everything, so I'm going to be running a forum game to test out some systems until I find something that's easy for me to run and fun for people to use. I'll make a IC thread once we get some people to play.

IC Thread

The System

There are 3 stats: DEX, STR, and INT.

You start with 12 points to put into these stats.

There is also HP and MP.

Mana is determined by the formula (INT*3).
Health is determined by the formula (STR*3).
Dexterity is currently only used for rolls, but I may connect it to a stat later.

Abilities are things like a healing spell or a special attack. Basically, it's some fluff and then do this thing, whether that's heal people, deal damage, block damage, etc.

Abilities are created by spending AP, which is determined by level.

All enemies will have their own set of stats and abilities, although some will lack stats, such as zombies not having INT.

Spoiler: Character Sheet (click to show/hide)
Post your sheets below. I'll add you to the character list.

Crafting/Enchanting/Etc.

You can craft fairly simple things (such as a slingshot or a sling) so long as you have the materials, otherwise you're practically guaranteed to succeed.
More difficult but relatively simple things, such as a bow or sword, generally requires knowledge or some type of guide and some form of basic infrastructure.
Things that are more complex, such as a watch, require knowledge, a large amount of time, and some specialized materials + infrastructure to make.

For Alchemy, you can take anything alchemical, mix it with a catalyst, and then try to see what the effects of them are, or you can try to find someone/something that already knows these effects and ask them, although there is no guarantee they can do what you want to do or that they will want to.

Enchanting takes a large amount of time (a day or more for more powerful and complex enchantments) and are non-transferable; if you want to do something, you're working almost entirely off your own knowledge. There are a few ways to begin learning enchanting, and some of them are easier or harder than others. Or you could just buy what enchanted things are already available and make do.

All crafting is based on INT, so a crafting-heavy character would need high INT.

Game hasn't started yet, gonna post a link to a roll20 game when it's ready. Give me about an hour.

Scratch that, just put up a character sheet. I'll make a separate IC thread once we get a few more people.

Alright, we might not start for a while though because I'd like to get 3 or 4 people before we start doing too much.

If you want me to know, then yes. If it's a secret from even me, then don't tell me.

Oh, and added to the player list.

EDIT: Before we get too many people in here, I should probably remember to actually add a way to make abilities...gonna do that real quick, sorry if this is inconvenient.

I think I'm going to let you know. It'd help you think of me the right way, and I think I can rely on you to be a good enough GM not to release the true nature a bit prematurely. Sending you that PM.

I'd check with you before I released anything you've PMed me, so don't worry about it.

Also added a way to make abilities, since that's kind of important.

Oh, now I have to do abilities.

Hey, maybe you should post some sample abilities. I'd like to know about what's balanced, numerically speaking. Does the average attack do 5 damage or 2d4+STR damage or what?

I can do that, give me a few minutes.

EDIT: Added an example for the "standard" roll, if you need anything else, just tell me.

How much does it cost to create an ability and to level up an ability?
