Man, I must be really bad at portraying 1/4 rotation.
Nope :P I could see that given the subtle shades and proportions (proportion seems to be something to improve on--there's the shoulder width and note of the trapezius muscle--it forms a 'figurative trapezoid' from the neck and shoulders, so it follows in proportion too). You have that down; it could do with improvement in many of your recent sketches as it isn't apparent, but you got it in mind given several other sketchies.

You also have the body contours down--that the body isn't rigid, but a mass of curve due to its surroundings and gravity. In the characters you make though, sometimes a bit of symmetry can help familiarity as if it's uneven, there may be the off-chance (low, but possible) that it may...just seem off. Unevenness is ok if the character designed isn't meant to be that solid (ie being of light/amorphous body, etc), but familiarity does help quite much. Not to worry about anyway since you can always note it down in a single line of text or two, or in consistency in two+ representations of the same character. Familiarity also works that way: consistency.

Also what Shook said. :P

RIGHT THEN, time to get this show on the road!

- Lines are decent and the shading is neat, no real problems there, so good job!

- Pose is fairly stiff, one can pretty much draw a completely straight line through the spine. This is a bit dull to look at; it's often much more appealing if the "guiding line" is a bit curved. Doesn't have to be much, this would be fine. Also note that the neck is rarely completely straight as well, it's usually bent ever so slightly forward with a slight backwards curve. Again, you really don't need much for this to be apparent.

Smaller nitpicks:
- Eyes are a bit uneven in size (this may be intentional)
- The torso and shoulders seem to be facing the viewer directly, when the rest of the body is, as you say, turned a bit away
- Arms are of uneven length; the heart being a bit uneven tickles my pseudo-OCD, but i can understand if that's just something you couldn't be bothered to fix
- The shadow on the neck doesn't quite imply roundness, and should likely be a bit further to the left

And there we go. As a side note, glowing things rarely have visible shadows on them. :v

This is really bad but I tried to practice gesture drawing. Which made me realize that in hindsight I should've sketched what I see and not use guidelines.

My ability to give meaningful critique is sadly unreliable.

Hands tend to slightly curve, though.

Have you heard of www.drawabox.com ? I just started, and their exercises on basic strokes and shapes are pretty great. I'd suggest taking a look through the first lesson and doing those the next time you're having an "ugh, not more effort" day.

Might be a bit silly for me to start right from the beginning, but it gives me something to do and put me back on track again! I'll be working slowly through homework and exercises on www.drawabox.com

Well, slowly for now, anyways. Once I'm done with the exam you guys should see a lot more improvement.

No, it's clearly draw a line.

Soon it will be draw a circle. Circles have far more artistic merits and I still haven't moved past them.

Those aren't lines, those are the bottom of a 2-dimensional cross-section of a box viewed in a 3D plane, silly.

You can just do like i do and say you were too much of a lazy shit to do it. Don't know if that's crossing the line for reasonable excuses, though... But eh, fuck reasonable. :v

Oh yeah, i didn't mean it as "i think you are a lazy shit" of course, that'd be terrible of me. What i meant to say is that it's a convenient excuse that covers a wide range of situations, and can be used freely if one is too much of a lazy shit to think up lacking a better one. I mean yes, "shit" can be replaced by a large number of more positively laden nouns, but "lazy shit" just flows so well, and is sufficiently vulgar that it rarely comes off as serious. Alternatively, you could just say "didn't feel like it", but that's almost too normal.

:U

Cinder is actually insanely productive compared to me, so hey!

also i just think it's funny to refer to myself as a lazy shit, it's not something i really take to heart and live by, i rather live by "energy efficient"
