Pretty sure it's been a very long time since the US actually executed a minor. The modern controversy was due to minors being sentenced to death, but actually executed as adults. The Supreme Court banned that a few years ago.

It was for murder in all instances, I'm pretty sure. I don't think the US even hands out death sentences for anything other than murder or treason.

The most recent, Scott Hain, was sentenced to death for kidnapping + murdering two people when he was 17 years old. He was convicted at age 18, and executed at the age of 32. The rest on that list Max linked to are pretty similar. None executed as minors, but 17 year olds tried and convicted as adults because of especially heinous crimes.

For what it's worth re: sentencing, we actually do have a good several hundred folks in the U.S. that were sentenced to life when they were a minor, apparently. Not terribly interested in looking up details, because I don't exactly need them to state that mandatory sentencing is several different kinds of fucked up, but it's happened recently enough the SCOTUS had a ruling giving the ones that didn't have a chance of parole a shot at it back in January. Of this year.

Even so, they probably won't have the time; by the time they arrive the climber will probably have asceneded the peak of Mt. Trump; or less gloriously have fallen to their death, or been picked up by the NYPD. Or both.

How do you mix up Chicago and NYC? Anyway, nobody has gotten a motive out of the guy, so people are just watching.

Also, earlier, a Trump supporter said that they should just shoot the guy with a tranquilizer. Like wut.... If the guy ends up being stuck on there and doesn't fall off, they'll have to risk other peoples lives to get him down.
