Werebeasts
« on: June 18, 2016, 02:35:50 am »

I was attacked by a werelizard recently which managed to spread the disease to one of my dwarves. I've isolated the wounded dwarf and noticed that he did transorm to the beast but returned back to normal after a while. I wonder - are those beasts that wander around the world ordinary beasts with permanent curse or are those simple folks with history who were bitten too and transform every now and then?

Depends which beasts you're talking about.

If you're talking about the werebeasts that attack your fort: Yes, they change back and retreat as soon as the full moon ends.

But are those historical figures or some random cursed creatures? I think that there's a lot of potential in the stories of werebeasts - why they are cursed, how did they get cursed, perhaps deities can curse someone for some acts against them such as desecrating a temple or a tomb.

Yes, they're historical. Check legends. They were either cursed directly or infected during a beast rampage.

You can tell stories about when they were cursed or bitten and whatnot if you know a little about the area where it happened at least.

That's great, I love the little immersive details in DF.
