Do you not see the evil in what you do—ordering Bulbasaur about? Acting as Bulbasaur? Even I, a god, do not do that—I do not run roughshod over people's free will! I do not command their bodies as if they were my own—for to do so is the most fundamental wrong!

I suppose that now is a good time to explain dragging. I had thought that it would not be necessary until Bulbasaur was forced to cross a river, and I wished to teach you the basic concepts first, but...

...Well, I do not think things are going as any of us expected, are they? Let us begin.



Dragging is exactly what it sounds like; it is the movement of one Pokemon by another. In most situations—including this one,you  idiots—it is useless, but occasionally...

...I will show you an example.



Tentacool needs to get onto the beach? Why? Irrelevant. Anyway, Tentacool, being a jellyfish monster, has 0 Walk—hold on, I haven't explained movement types, have I? This example rather falls apart without them, so...



For now, I will stick with the common ones: Walk, Swim, and Fly.

Walk is the simplest (and most common) form of land-based travel. Pokemon with walk must pay the TRV cost of any obstructed tiles they walk across, but can also gain EVA—I have not explained that either, have I? This is getting to be ridiculous. Let's just go back to dragging.



As I was saying, Tentacool has 0 Walk; that means that it cannot move on land. Luckily, Machop, a Pokemon with 3 WLK, is right next to it!



Machop uses its Major Action—oh boy, another thing I have yet to explain; the important part is that you consume it to attack—to begin dragging Tentacool. It can then travel its full TRV, minus a 1-tile drag penalty.



Machop decides to move as far to the right as possible. After moving, the dragging Pokemon can drop the dragged Pokemon on any orthogonally adjacent tile; Machop can drop Tentacool one tile north, south, east, or west.



Machop drops Tentacool on the northern tile, ending his turn. As we already know, Tentacool cannot move on land; even if it could, however, it still would not be able to do so during a turn in which it was dragged. It can use its major action, though.

...Oh, and one other thing: A Pokemon situated on a tile it could not normally access—a Pokemon with only WLK on a water tile, or a swimmer on a land tile—suffers a -50 penalty to both HIT and EVA. You do not know what that means, yet, but I can tell you that it is really bad.


Now that you understand the mechanics of dragging, you should be able to see that you are acting like fools; dragging Weedle A about will slow Bulbasaur down and prevent him from attacking, and the act carries no practical gain. Furthermore, the leash you insist upon using will reduce the movement of both Bulbasaur and Weedle A; it will most likely upset the currently-neutral Weedle B, as well.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I've already played those games--and they're pretty different from what I'm going for, beyond the whole "tile-based Pokemon RPG" thing.

I gave it a brief skim, but I couldn't find anything useful—then again, it was only a skim. I'll take another look later, maybe. I feel like it's pretty much entirely different from what I'm going for, though.
