Try to take some day/nyquil and things like aspirin, in moderation. The stuff's bad for your liver.

Do not mix them - they both have acetaminophen, and that can and will damage or even destroy your liver if you go over the maximum recommended dose.

I've actually taken both tylenol and nyquil at the same time a while back, and nothing gruesome happened.

It probably wasn't that fun for my liver, but it helped with my cold. It is still definitely a good idea to find out the OD limit on whatever you take.

It's not that you *mustn't* mix drugs in this case. It's just that you have to know that you're effectively taking a double-dose, which isn't dangerous on its own, unless you exceed the actual safe dosage that way.

The problem is a lot of people think that since it's named differently, it's clearly a different substance, therefore safe, take a jillion different pills, then die because each of them was just a different market name for acetaminophen so they effectively downed a whole box of tylenol all at once.

My understanding of the dangers of mixing medicine (I am not a physician).

1.) Overdosing. Liver damage from too much of some chemical in your system too fast for your body to get rid of it.
2.) Drug interaction. Two or more drugs combining to form bad consequences.

Neither is good.

Still sleep sweating with no medication. No fever. Still coughing productively, but less so. Go figure.

scrdest is correct, the only reason for the big scary warning to not mix painkillers is that paracetamol is in most of them and it gets toxic at relatively low dosages such as 4000mg. Don't underestimate how imbecile people can be.

A cough is usually not much of a problem. If you're coughing up phlegm/mucus, do not try to suppress the cough; try to cough up as much mucus as you comfortably can. If it is a dry cough, use a cough suppressant (e.g. cough drops, cough syrup...).
