C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\PROPSYS.dll Error
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:57:30 pm »

Every time I start up my computer, I get this error message:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm not actually sure what the 'program' it is talking about is, the file is the file in question is inside the 'Microsoft' folder. It is interfering with the sound on Youtube (Chrome isn't appearing on my volume mixer). The same thing is happening with Steam. I tried restoring the computer from a System Restore Point, but that made the computer not start up correctly, so I did another restore to before I restored the first time. For some reason when I tried to use a System Image to restore from the tab was empty; When I opened up the 'Restore from System Image' tab, it was simply blank.

An interesting thing to note is, when I try to open a game called Downwell from it's file location a number of similar error messages come up, with the same description, and then the game starts up anyway. List of titles of errors:
- Downwell_v1_0_5.exe - Bad Image x 6
- Downwell: Downwell_v1_0_5.exe - Bad Image

Any advice on what to do?

Uh, maybe try Googling propsys.dll? The very first Google result should get you started on fixing things.

...though if I were you, I'd just reinstall Windows because there's a 99% probability that your PC is infected.

DEFINITELY reinstall windows. It's kinda screwed until you do it. Did you download anything suspicious? Downloaded sexual content, pirated something, X cracked, ect? That might have been the cause of it.

Or, more likely, some random "free" program that you downloaded from some random website that turned out to be a trap and not the good kind.

Just do a scan with your antivirus.

If nothing comes up, try re-installing.

Fixed. Thanks for the help, guys.

I reset my computer, deleting all everything (keeping personal files didn't work) and then my computer broke. We rebooted the computer using a Windows 8 hard drive thing, and then upgraded to Windows 10 again.

Also, I didn't download anything silly.
